The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is launching a crucial emergency response project across several Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Zamfara State. We are seeking 70 highly motivated, dynamic, and detail-oriented individuals to join our team as Data Enumerators.

Your work will be vital in providing the data necessary for monitoring, evaluating, and guiding our teams to achieve project goals, which include improving livelihood, potable water, hygiene practices, sanitation systems, and protection services for internally displaced persons and vulnerable community members in the region.

As a Data Enumerator, you will be a key leader in field activities within Zamfara State, ensuring accurate and consistent data collection that informs critical decision-making for our humanitarian programs.

Core Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Collecting high-quality data during assessments, surveys, monitoring, Post Distribution Monitoring (PDM), registration, and verification exercises, under the guidance of Program and MEAL staff.
  • Conducting community entry protocols and working with community volunteers to identify eligible respondents and lead data collection efforts (using paper-based and electronic forms/Android devices).
  • Visiting households to administer questionnaires, conduct interviews, and accurately record observations.
  • Taking notes, transcribing interviews, and preparing summaries from Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs).
  • Adhering strictly to data collection protocols, confidentiality procedures, and the IRC’s Code of Conduct and Child Safeguarding Policy.
  • Reporting any challenges or discrepancies encountered to the field supervisor immediately.
  • Implementing quality control measures, including regular data reviews and spot checks before uploading onto the server.

Qualifications and Experience

Education & Experience

  • At least a Diploma or University Degree in any field.
  • Candidates with an SSCE certificate who possess adequate knowledge and proven experience in data collection are also encouraged to apply.
  • Experience working with community structures in Northwest Nigeria, particularly in Zamfara, with a good knowledge of cultural norms and values is essential.
  • Fluency in English, Hausa, and/or Fulani is highly preferred.

Technical and Interpersonal Skills

  • Basic understanding of data collection methods (surveys, interviews, focus groups).
  • Familiarity with mobile data collection tools (e.g., Kobo Toolbox, ODK, Commcare) and basic mobile device usage. Please indicate your experience with these tools.
  • Knowledge of basic computer software, including MS Excel and MS Word.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work respectfully within diverse teams and directly with community members.
  • Willingness to travel to field sites within Tsafe, Anka, and Gusau LGAs, with flexibility to work extended hours when necessary.
