THE MISSION
Routine Immunization (RI) is the backbone of a resilient primary healthcare system. It is the most cost-effective intervention for reducing childhood mortality and preventing outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases.
As a Field Officer for Routine Immunization, you will be at the forefront of this mission. You will work directly with health facilities, traditional leaders, and local government teams to ensure that every child, in every community, has access to life-saving vaccines. Your role is to bridge the gap between policy and the people, ensuring that cold chains remain intact and no child is left behind.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Technical Support & Supervision
- Conduct regular supportive supervision visits to health facilities to monitor RI service delivery.
- Ensure health workers adhere to national immunization protocols and safety standards.
- Support the implementation of “Reach Every Ward” (REW) and “Reach Every Settlement” (RES) strategies.
2. Data Management & Quality Assurance
- Monitor vaccine utilization and ensure the accuracy of RI registers and summary sheets.
- Support the timely upload of immunization data into the DHIS2 platform.
- Analyze local data to identify “zero-dose” settlements and missed communities.
3. Supply Chain & Cold Chain Oversight
- Monitor the vaccine cold chain at the LGA and facility levels to ensure potency.
- Track vaccine stock levels and provide technical support to prevent stock-outs or wastage.
4. Community Engagement & Advocacy
- Collaborate with traditional, religious, and community leaders to build trust in vaccines.
- Support the coordination of Social Mobilization Committees to address vaccine hesitancy.
- Assist in the planning and execution of Supplemental Immunization Activities (SIAs) and Outbreak Response (OBR) campaigns.
5. Capacity Building
- Provide on-the-job mentoring and coaching to facility-level health workers.
- Support the facilitation of RI review meetings at the LGA level.
CANDIDATE SPECIFICATIONS
- Education: Degree or Diploma in Nursing, Midwifery, Community Health (CHEW), Public Health, or a related medical field.
- Experience: * Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in primary healthcare or immunization programs.
- Proven experience working with government health systems (SPHCDA/LGA health teams).
- Familiarity with the Nigerian immunization landscape and GAVI-supported interventions.
- Technical Skills: * Strong understanding of Cold Chain Management and Vaccine Logistics.
- Proficiency in data collection tools and basic Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent knowledge of RI monitoring and evaluation indicators.
- General Skills: * Ability to travel to remote and hard-to-reach communities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills in both English and local dialects.
- High level of accountability and professional integrity.
