PROJECT CONTEXT
The SARMAAN II project is a critical child survival initiative evaluating the safety and impact of mass azithromycin administration (MDA) among children aged 1–59 months across 11 Nigerian states. To ensure this life-saving intervention is successful, clear and culturally resonant communication is essential.
We are seeking a skilled English-to-Hausa Translator to adapt communication materials (wall charts and posters) into clear, context-appropriate Hausa. Your work will ensure that technical and behavioral messages are understood by community members and health facility staff across implementation sites like Kebbi and beyond.
SCOPE OF WORK
The consultant will be responsible for:
- Translation: Converting content for four (4) selected poster pages from English to Hausa.
- Contextual Adaptation: Ensuring messages use simple, clear Hausa that is suitable for community-level comprehension while maintaining the original intent.
- Technical Integrity: Retaining key public health terminology while making it accessible to non-technical audiences.
- Review: Refining translations based on feedback from the SARMAAN II programme team.
EXPECTED DELIVERABLES
- Final Hausa Versions: Fully translated, accurate, and complete content for all four poster pages.
- Formatting: Submissions must be in editable Word format and align with the original English document structure.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
- Education: Minimum of a Diploma in Communication, English, Linguistics, or a related field.
- Experience: * 1–2 years of proven experience translating English texts to Hausa.
- Previous experience working with International Organizations (INGOs) is required.
- Strong understanding of health communication and public health terminology.
- Key Skills:
- Ability to simplify technical content without losing its core meaning.
- Exceptional attention to detail and cultural nuances.
- Ability to deliver high-quality outputs within tight project timelines.
EVALUATION CRITERIA
