Job Title: GBV Champion

Location: Bama / Konduga, Borno

Job Description
The job description for a GBV champion typically includes the following duties and responsibilities:
Community mobilization and awareness:

  • Lead and conduct awareness-raising sessions on, GBV, and protection topics in safe spaces and during outreach activities.
  • Provide door-to-door education on sensitive issues such as gender discrimination, gender norms, GBV, PSEA and child marriage.
  • Facilitate sessions with various groups, including women, men, girls, and boys, to challenge harmful gender stereotypes and promote respectful relationships.
  • Organize and coordinate community events, such as special commemorations for anti-GBV campaigns.
  • Referral of GBV cases to access appropriate services

Advocacy and support:

  • Advocate on behalf of community members and make direct interventions with local authorities or other non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to address GBV issues.
  • Serve as a role model and agent for change within their communities.
  • Provide guidance to peers on how to incorporate gender considerations into all community activities.
  • Work to reduce the social acceptance of violence and encourage open discussion about GBV.

Networking and coordination:

  • Build and maintain collaborative networks with peers, government agencies, and other NGOs working on gender-related issues.
  • Engage with various stakeholders, including partner organizations, community structures, and service providers, to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Assist in referring GBV survivors to appropriate support services, such as psychosocial, medical, and legal aid.

Reporting and administration;

  • Prepare and submit regular work plans and reports to their supervisor detailing their activities and any issues encountered.
  • Document best practices, lessons learned, and success stories to help improve programming.
  • Work closely with monitoring and evaluation (M&E) teams to help mobilize community members for data collection exercises.

Required skills and qualifications;

  • Proven interest and leadership qualities related to gender equality and GBV.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
  • A strong understanding of the socio-cultural issues and prevailing gender norms within the community.
  • Experience in community mobilization or activism.
  • The ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and establish harmonious working relationships.
  • Ability to read, write and speak in the local language.
  • This Project Duration is 6 months.
  • this positional location is 6 in Bama, 6 in Konduga(local residents are encouraged to apply)
