CONTRXTUAL BACKGROUND
The Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) project is an integrated multisectoral intervention aimed at providing immediate humanitarian assistance to internally displaced populations (IDPs) in Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina States. Led by the IRC in collaboration with ALIMA, COOPI, LHI, and GISCOR, the consortium focuses on Health, Nutrition, WASH, Protection, and Multi-purpose Cash Assistance.
ROLE PURPOSE
The Child Protection (CP) Assistant is responsible for the frontline implementation of child protection activities. This includes supervising community-based structures, conducting case management for vulnerable children, facilitating psychosocial support, and lead positive parenting sessions. You will work to ensure that children experiencing abuse, neglect, or violence receive the specialized care and protection they deserve.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Case Management & Vulnerability Assessment
- Conduct vulnerability assessments to identify children at risk, including Unaccompanied and Separated Children (UASC).
- Develop individualized action plans and provide high-quality case management for at-risk children and families.
- Ensure strict adherence to data protection principles and CPIMS standards.
2. Psychosocial Support & Community Engagement
- Facilitate group psychosocial support for children and adolescents.
- Lead Safe Healing and Learning Spaces (SHLS) activities and provide daily guidance to SHLS facilitators.
- Enroll parents and caregivers in positive parenting sessions to strengthen family resilience.
- Conduct service mapping to establish and maintain effective referral pathways.
3. Capacity Building & Supervision
- Supervise, mentor, and coach Community-Based Child Protection Committees (CBCPCs) and SHLS facilitators.
- Develop capacity-building sessions to strengthen community-based protection mechanisms.
- Promote a strong team spirit and provide constructive performance feedback to community volunteers.
4. Coordination & Reporting
- Coordinate with governmental agencies and stakeholders on vulnerable cases.
- Develop weekly activity schedules and draft progress reports for the CP Officer and Manager.
CANDIDATE SPECIFICATIONS
- Education: Minimum of a Degree or HND in Social Work, Psychology, Education, or related Social Sciences.
- Experience: At least 2 years of experience implementing child protection programs in humanitarian or development settings.
- Technical Skills: * Proven experience in CP case management, family tracing, and reunification.
- Expertise in delivering group psychosocial activities and emergency response.
- Familiarity with Child Safeguarding mechanisms and the SAFE approach.
- Competencies: Strong team player, ability to handle pressure, and excellent time management.
- Languages: Fluency in English is required; fluency in Hausa is strongly preferred.
