Success Blueprint: MSI Lab Technician (Lagos & Abuja)

Applying for a role at MSI Nigeria (formerly Marie Stopes) requires a unique blend of technical diagnostic skill and a deep alignment with their mission of “Children by Choice, not by Chance.”

1. The “Safeguarding” Filter

MSI Nigeria has a zero-tolerance policy for abuse and exploitation.

  • The Strategy: In your interview and cover letter, emphasize your understanding of Patient Confidentiality and Safeguarding. Show that you understand how to handle sensitive reproductive health data and how to treat every client with dignity, regardless of their choices.
  • Keyword: “Zero-tolerance,” “Inclusive healthcare,” “Patient dignity.”

2. Clinical Versatility

This isn’t just a “bench” role; you are part of a medical team.

  • The Task: You will be expected to chaperone physicians and assist in treatments.
  • Pro-Tip: Highlight your experience in Clinical Phlebotomy and your ability to reassure anxious patients. Mention any experience you have in Microbiology or Haematology, as these are specifically listed as advantages.

3. Precision in Documentation

MSIN uses a Laboratory Information System (LIS) and values accurate medical records.

  • Focus: Discuss your “Attention to Detail.” Give an example of a time your meticulous documentation or sample labeling prevented a clinical error. Mention your proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital health platforms.

4. Community Activation & Advocacy

The role requires supporting the marketing team during “activations.”

  • The Skill: You need to be able to explain technical lab concepts to the general public in a simple, non-intimidating way.
  • Action: Highlight any experience you have in Public Health Outreach or community education. Showing you are “mission-driven” rather than just “job-driven” is key for MSIN.

5. Final Checklist (Don’t Skip!)

  • [ ] CV File Name: Did you rename your CV to FirstName_LastName.pdf? This is a mandatory requirement—failing to do this will result in automatic disqualification.
  • [ ] Rolling Basis: Because they interview as applications come in, apply immediately. Don’t wait for the April 27th deadline.
  • [ ] Relocation: Note that there is no allowance; ensure you have a clear plan for working in either Surulere (Lagos) or Utako (Abuja).

You are the technical expert ensuring safe choices for women and families. Apply with precision.
