Job Summary
The Pharmacy Technician will support the Pharmacist in delivering high-quality pharmacy services, ensuring rational drug use, and managing the logistics of antiretroviral (ARV) and opportunistic infection medications across assigned clinics and outposts.
Key Responsibilities
Pharmaceutical Services
- Provide information to patients and healthcare providers on drug use, interactions, dosage, and side effects
- Counsel patients on medication adherence and proper drug use
- Support safe dispensing practices in line with approved guidelines
Drug Supply & Inventory Management
- Manage data collection for prescriptions, drug inventory, and pharmacy records
- Conduct monthly stock counts at clinic and outpost levels
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of drug consumption and stock reports
- Collaborate with central pharmacy teams to maintain adequate stock levels
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to policies on controlled substances and drug safety
- Maintain proper storage and disposal of pharmaceuticals, including hazardous drugs
- Support quality improvement initiatives in pharmacy services
Program Support
- Supervise pre-dispensing of medications for down-referred clients
- Update pharmacy service databases regularly
- Mentor clinic staff on pharmacy processes and documentation
Additional Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Diploma from a recognized School of Health Technology
- Valid license to practice as a Pharmacy Technician
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience, preferably in HIV/AIDS programs
- Experience in drug logistics and supply chain management in NGO settings is an advantage
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
- Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical practices and inventory systems
