Jhpiego is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.
Success Blueprint: Anaesthesiologist (CEmONC)
In the CEmONC framework, the Anaesthesiologist is the silent guardian of the operating theater. Jhpiego is looking for “Clinical Faculty” level experts who can standardize safe anaesthesia in environments where resources may be limited.
1. Highlight “Obstetric Anaesthesia” Specifics
General anaesthesia experience is not enough. You must prove your expertise in high-risk obstetric cases.
- The Strategy: Explicitly mention your proficiency in Spinal Anaesthesia for C-sections, management of the Difficult Airway in pregnancy, and anaesthetic management of Eclampsia and Obstetric Hemorrhage.
- Pro-Tip: If you have experience in “Nurse Anaesthetist” supervision or training, emphasize this, as you will likely be training non-physician anaesthetists in some facility settings.
2. Leverage Faculty/Residency Background
The job description prioritizes “current or recent faculty members.”
- Action: If you are a Consultant with a teaching hospital or have served as a Trainer for the West African College of Surgeons (WACS) or National Post-graduate Medical College, ensure this is the first thing in your professional summary.
- Keywords: “Residency training,” “Skills standardization,” “Curriculum delivery,” “Clinical simulation.”
3. The Power of “Mentoring” (60% of the Role)
Jhpiego has allocated 6 days to mentoring—the largest chunk of the assignment.
- Focus: Show that you can move beyond the podium. Discuss your approach to “Bedside Teaching” and “Intra-operative Coaching.” Mention how you help junior staff manage clinical crises like “Hypotension during Spinal” or “Failed Intubation.”
4. Data Accuracy and Reporting
International donors (USG) require rigorous data.
- Technique: Mention your experience in conducting Clinical Audits or analyzing Maternal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) data. Showing that you can analyze pre- and post-test scores and link them to clinical outcomes will make your report stand out.
5. Adaptability in the Field
Travel (70%) is a major component of this role.
- Context: You will be visiting facilities in the FCT or Ebonyi LGAs.
- Action: Emphasize your ability to adapt to “Low-Resource” settings. Discuss how you maintain safety standards (e.g., Checklists, monitoring protocols) even when high-end equipment is unavailable.
6. Final Application Checklist
- [ ] MDCN License: Is your current 2026 license scanned and ready?
- [ ] Experience Count: Do you meet the 5-year post-qualification threshold?
- [ ] Recent Training: Have you conducted training in the last 24 months? (Highlight this on your CV).
- [ ] Availability: Confirm you can dedicate 12 non-consecutive days to this mission.
You are the expert ensuring every surgery ends with a healthy mother and baby. Apply with clinical authority.
