METHOD OF APPLICATION

Success Blueprint: Neonatologist / Paediatrician (CEmONC)
As a Post-Fellowship Consultant, your role with Jhpiego is that of a “Master Clinician.” You are being brought in to ensure that the “Neonatal” signal functions of CEmONC are performed flawlessly in low-resource settings.
1. Highlight “Signal Function” Mastery
While CEmONC covers 10 signal functions, as a Paediatrician, your focus is on the neonatal survival trio.
- The Strategy: Explicitly mention your mastery of Neonatal Resuscitation (Helping Babies Breathe), management of Neonatal Sepsis, and care for the Small/Preterm Baby (Kangaroo Mother Care).
- Pro-Tip: Discuss your experience in setting up or managing Special Care Baby Units (SCBU) or NICUs in resource-constrained environments.
2. The 6-Day Mentorship Focus
Jhpiego allocates more time to mentoring (6 days) than training (4 days).
- Success Factor: You must prove you can “coach” rather than just “lecture.”
- Action: In your application, highlight your experience in supervising House Officers, Residents, or Senior Nursing staff. Use keywords like “Bedside teaching,” “Case-based discussions,” and “Clinical simulation.”
3. Data-Driven Reporting
Consultants are required to provide “detailed and analysed” pre- and post-test scores.
- Technique: Showcase your analytical skills. If you have experience in clinical audits or research where you analyzed healthcare worker performance, mention it.
- Check: Mention your proficiency in Excel for data analysis and your ability to write “Comprehensive Technical Reports” for international donors.
4. Navigating the LGA Health Facility Context
You will be traveling 70% of the time to facilities across Ebonyi or the FCT.
- Context: These are likely General Hospitals or Comprehensive PHCs.
- Action: Highlight your adaptability. Show that you can maintain high clinical standards even when equipment is minimal, and that you can communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams (Nurses, Midwives, and Doctors).
5. Diplomacy and Advocacy
You will be participating in stakeholder debriefs.
- Strategy: Highlight your experience in Health Advocacy. Mention any past collaborations with the State Ministry of Health or Hospital Management Boards.
6. Final Application Checklist
- [ ] Fellowship Proof: Is your Fellowship (NPMCN/WACP) clearly stated with the date of award?
- [ ] License Check: Do you have your 2026 MDCN license ready for upload?
- [ ] Experience Count: Do you meet the 5-year post-fellowship requirement?
- [ ] Travel Availability: Ensure your current hospital/practice allows for the intensive 70% travel requirement of this 12-day assignment.
You are the technical authority ensuring every newborn has a chance at life. Apply with clinical rigor.
