THE ESSENTIAL CONNECTOR ROLE
The Social Mobilizer is the vital bridge between the IBBSS research team and the community. This role is designed for individuals with deep-rooted connections within Key Population (KP) communities. You will be responsible for creating a safe, welcoming, and informed environment for survey participants, ensuring that recruitment is ethical, efficient, and community-led.
TYPOLOGY-SPECIFIC ENGAGEMENT
Candidates must be members of or deeply embedded within the specific community they apply to serve:
- FSW Typology (Female Sex Workers)
- MSM Typology (Men who have Sex with Men)
- PWID Typology (People Who Inject Drugs)
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Community Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact, engaging community members and building trust before the field team arrives.
- Strategic Recruitment: Identify and recruit eligible participants from high-traffic “hotspots” and community nodes within the state.
- Virtual Mobilization: (Specifically for MSM/FSW) Utilize social media and virtual platforms to engage and mobilize participants for physical interviews.
- Site Preparation: Ensure all interview venues are safe, confidential, and ready for use; schedule interviews at times that are most convenient and secure for participants.
- Advocacy & Education: Clearly explain the survey goals, benefits, and confidentiality protocols to community members to debunk myths and encourage participation.
- Field Harmony: Facilitate a “hitch-free” interview process by managing community dynamics and ensuring the safety of both participants and the research team.
CANDIDATE SPECIFICATIONS
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Minimum of Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSCE/NECO). Candidates must be literate.
- Community Status: Must be a recognized or certified member of the target Key Population group.
- Experience: 1–2 years of active experience working within or for KP-focused community projects.
- Digital Literacy: Experience with Virtual Mapping or recruiting via social media/dating apps is a significant advantage.
Key Attributes
- Local Knowledge: Profound familiarity with the state’s KP hotspots, “hangouts,” and social networks.
- Linguistic Skills: Ability to speak the local language/dialect fluently is essential for building rapport.
- Residency: You must be a current resident of the state for which you are applying.
- Soft Skills: Excellent interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
- Legacy Advantage: Prior experience with WACPHD, IGPH, or NACA projects will be highly regarded.

This is a contractual field-based position. Social Mobilizers are expected to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality and professional ethics while representing WACPHD and the community.
