Main Purpose

Supporting the Watsan Supervisor in the implementation, monitoring, maintaining, and trouble-shooting of Water Hygiene Sanitation activities and infrastructure in the project according to MSF protocols, standards and procedures in order to improve health and living conditions of the target population

Accountabilities

Carrying out tasks directly related to the Watsan activities such as construction and maintenance of infrastructures in the project according to MSF protocols and standards concerning the operation of water supply, waste management and excreta disposal, hygiene and infection control.

Ensuring the cleaning and maintenance of the Watsan structures and when applicable, of the medical facilities;

Identifying, recruiting, training and supervising daily labourers or hygiene agents for Watsan activities

Informing the Watsan Supervisor of any difficulties, anomalies and problems that may affect the normal functioning of activities and tasks in his/her area of responsibility;

Assisting the Watsan Supervisor in Watsan data collection and reporting, as well as maintaining updated files and records of assigned project activities

Being responsible for equipment, tools, and consumables, verifying that they are safely used and maintained. Reporting to the supervisor any need of renewal and the weekly/monthly consumption

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

Ensure daily maintenance and repair of WatSan infrastructures in all the project locations and guarantee smooth running of EH activities.

Distribution of tools for water treatment and disinfection; ensuring daily distribution of chlorinated water in the health structure and base.

Carry out vector control in all project locations following the planned schedule and according to MSF standard/guidelines.

Follow MSF guidelines and standard in implementing EH activities in the project.

Regular follow up on EH stock in the health structure storage; recording stocks received and stocks consumed, weekly reporting of stock follow up and supporting the EH Manager in planning weekly/monthly IRs.

Participate in assessments and data collection when required.

Support the EH Manager in supervising WatSan Agents; managing their rosters, HR and Admin processes. Ensure tasks allocated to WatSan Agents are executed timely and in the right manner.

Minimum Required Skills and Qualifications:

Education

Diploma in water resource management, hydrogeology, environmental health or related qualification;

Experience

One year minimum working experience in water works preferably in NGO environment.

Experience working in WASH related projects is an added advantage

Good communication skills and a good team player.

Motivation to work in an international/inter-cultural context & humanitarian team spirit.

High flexibility and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
