Green Concern for Development (GREENCODE) is a national humanitarian and development organization with over 10 years of development interventions and humanitarian response in Nigeria. We have partnered with several INGOs and NGOs in implementing people’s centered project.

We envisage rural communities in Nigeria that are environmentally conscious, where poverty is eradicated, and social rights upheld. We work with the poor and socially excluded people, and government for the promotion of environment and human rights protection in communities that are in Nigeria, aimed at poverty reduction through education, information sharing, research, training and direct impact intervention.

Position Title: WASH Project Coordinator
Location: Nganzai, Borno State
Employment Type: Full-Time Duration: 6 Months

Job Purpose:

The WASH Coordinator provides strategic leadership and technical oversight for all water, sanitation, and hygiene activities across the organization’s operational areas. This role is responsible for ensuring that WASH interventions are appropriate, high-quality, and effectively integrated with other sectors such as health, nutrition, and protection. The WASH Coordinator leads program planning, oversees field implementation, and engages with communities and partners to promote safe WASH practices and sustainable solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

1.  Program Strategy and Implementation

  • Lead the design, planning, and execution of WASH interventions including water supply, sanitation infrastructure, hygiene promotion, and emergency response.
  • Ensure all activities comply with international WASH standards (e.g., SPHERE), national guidelines, and donor requirements.
  • Identify WASH needs through assessments and contribute to developing evidence-based programming.

2.  Technical Support and Quality Assurance

  • Provide technical guidance to field teams on WASH infrastructure, water treatment, sanitation systems, and hygiene behavior change.
  • Review and approve technical designs, BoQs, and construction plans for WASH facilities. • Ensure regular monitoring of activities to track progress, identify gaps, and ensure quality and safety.

3.  Team Management and Capacity Building

  • Supervise and mentor WASH field staff, ensuring clear roles, performance management, and staff development.
  • Organize training and on-the-job support for team members, partners, and community volunteers.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and respect in the WASH team.

4.  Coordination and Representation

  • Represent the organization in WASH sector meetings, clusters, and coordination platforms with government, UN agencies, and NGOs.
  • Coordinate with logistics, MEAL, protection, and other program teams to ensure integration and efficient delivery.
  • Foster relationships with local authorities, water boards, and community structures to support sustainability.

5.  Monitoring, Reporting & Learning

  • Develop and use monitoring tools to track project indicators and outcomes.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to donors, partners, and internal management.
  • Document best practices, success stories, and lessons learned to inform future programming and proposal development.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • University degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Health, Public Health, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in WASH project implementation, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.
  • Proven experience in water infrastructure design, sanitation systems, and hygiene promotion.
  • Strong understanding of community engagement, participatory methods, and behavior change.
  • Demonstrated leadership, coordination, and project management skills.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English; knowledge of local languages is an advantage.

Desirable Skills & Attributes:

  • Familiarity with WASH in emergency and recovery settings.
  • Strong understanding of gender and protection mainstreaming in WASH programs.
  • Knowledge of donor regulations and reporting requirements (e.g., UNICEF, ECHO, USAID, WASH Cluster).
  • Competency in tools like AutoCAD, EPANET, or GIS is a plus.
