Job Summary
The Technical Advisor II, MNCH provides high-level technical leadership for maternal, newborn, and child health components across integrated health programs. The role supports program design, implementation, and quality assurance while mentoring technical teams and engaging key stakeholders. The successful candidate will contribute to strategic growth, innovation, and excellence across MNCH initiatives in Nigeria and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide senior technical guidance on MNCH policies, standards, and evidence-based practices at project and organizational levels.
- Lead the design of MNCH program strategies, ensuring alignment with donor requirements, budgets, and implementation realities.
- Oversee day-to-day technical delivery of MNCH and integrated health projects to ensure activities meet quality standards and performance targets.
- Supervise and mentor MNCH technical staff, supporting professional development and high-quality outputs.
- Coordinate closely with Ministries of Health, implementing partners, donors, and other stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration.
- Represent the organization at national and international forums, technical meetings, and conferences related to MNCH.
- Guide the development and revision of technical guidelines, tools, and best-practice documents.
- Lead or support proposal development, including technical narratives, work plans, budgets, and partnership engagement.
- Review technical reports and present program progress and results to donors and clients.
- Identify capacity gaps within teams and design strategies to strengthen technical knowledge and skills.
- Anticipate technical risks to program delivery and develop practical mitigation plans.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize, plan, and deliver complex activities.
- Deep technical expertise in MNCH service delivery at facility and community levels.
- Knowledge of related health areas such as immunization, malaria, nutrition, primary health care, and health systems strengthening.
- Excellent communication skills for technical exchange, presentations, and stakeholder engagement.
- Proven ability to influence decision-making and build consensus among diverse partners.
- Strong negotiation and relationship-management skills.
- Advanced problem-solving abilities with minimal supervision.
Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s degree (or international equivalent) in Public Health, Health Sciences, International Development, Social Sciences, or a related field with 12+ years of relevant MNCH experience; or MD/PhD with 9+ years of experience.
- Demonstrated experience designing, managing, and evaluating MNCH programs.
- Participation in national or global MNCH technical committees or normative bodies.
- Record of publications, technical reports, presentations, or tool development in MNCH.
- Experience leading or contributing to business development and proposal writing.
- International program management or development experience is an advantage.
- Professional-level proficiency in French is required; Portuguese is an added asset.
