Wadata Relief Care Initiative (WRCI) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political, and humanitarian and Developmental organization that strives for a just world that advances children’s rights and equality for girls and young people in Nigeria by promoting equitable governance and human rights. Established in 2018. WRCI started operations in 2019 and registered as a nonprofit making organization with Corporate Affairs Commission in 2023. In July 2009 the Boko haram insurgence began in the Northeast, and in 2011 the bandit Conflict in the Northwest escalated, the Federal Government announced interventions that affected the lives of the general population. To fight the insurgence/banditry to reduce its impact on the population, Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Nigeria collaborated to fight the insurgence’s menace. In 2018, WRCI launched activities to provide succour to people affected by the conflict and violence.

Job Title: Protection and Gender Officer

About the Project
- This project,“Strengthening Community Resilience against Extremism and Violent Extremism through Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Women and Youth Associated with Violent Extremism,”will be implemented in Bakori Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State, Northwest Nigeria.
- It aims to address the multifaceted challenges posed by armed groups, including bandits and the Lakurawa insurgents, which have severely impacted local communities through violence, displacement, and disruption of livelihoods.
- The initiative focuses on rehabilitating and reintegrating women and youth affected by or associated with violent extremism, while simultaneously strengthening the resilience of the broader community.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure that protection principles and gender considerations are fully integrated into all project activities.
- Conduct gender and protection analyses to identify vulnerabilities and inform project design and implementation.
- Develop and implement strategies to address the specific needs of women, children, and other vulnerable groups affected by conflict and displacement.
- Provide technical guidance and training to project staff and partners on protection and gender mainstreaming.
- Facilitate community awareness sessions on protection rights, gender equality, and prevention of gender-based violence (GBV).
- Monitor and report on protection and gender-related issues, including risks, incidents, and response mechanisms.
- Collaborate with local authorities, community leaders, and protection actors to strengthen referral pathways and support services for survivors of violence.
- Advocate for inclusive participation of women and marginalized groups in project activities and decision-making processes.
- Support the establishment of safe spaces and psychosocial support initiatives as part of project interventions.
- Lead the implementation and enforcement of Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (PSEAH) policies by promoting awareness, ensuring safe and accessible reporting mechanisms, conducting trainings, and fostering a zero-tolerance culture within the project and among partners.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Human Rights, Protection, or related fields.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in protection, gender, or related roles, preferably in conflict-affected or humanitarian contexts.
- Strong understanding of protection principles, gender equality, and GBV prevention and response.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations, including displaced persons and survivors of violence.
- Ability to develop and deliver training and awareness programs.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and advocacy skills.
- Proficient in English; knowledge of Hausa or other local languages is an advantage.
- Ability to work sensitively and confidentially in challenging environments.
