Job Summary
The Programme Officer serves as the primary operational representative and manager for Lafiya’s entire program portfolio within Kano State, Nigeria. This critical leadership role is tasked with overseeing the efficient, high-quality, and compliant delivery of last-mile contraceptive services through our network of community-based health providers. The incumbent will be instrumental in managing team performance, coordinating with government partners, and maintaining impeccable data and logistics systems to sustain continuous service provision across the state.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
I. Operational and Team Leadership
- Take charge of all day-to-day operations for the Kano State program, guaranteeing that all planned activities are completed on schedule, meet required quality benchmarks, and adhere strictly to budgetary constraints.
- Recruit, train, mentor, and provide supportive supervision to the network of “Lafiya Sisters” (female community health providers), ensuring they maintain the highest standards of contraceptive counselling and service delivery.
- Monitor and proactively mitigate all program-related risks at the state level, including concerns related to safeguarding, data integrity, and adherence to organizational compliance policies.
II. Stakeholder and Partnership Management
- Cultivate and sustain robust professional alliances with key governmental partners, including the State Primary Health Care Management Board (SPHCMB), the Central Medical Store (CMS), and Local Government Area (LGA) Family Planning Coordinators.
- Serve as the formal representative for Lafiya in all relevant technical working groups, official government dialogues, and coordination meetings with local and international partners in Kano.
III. Data and Supply Chain Integrity
- Oversee all processes related to program data, including collection, accurate entry, quality checks, and timely submission of state-level performance reports.
- Perform routine data quality assurance exercises and conduct basic analytical reviews to identify trends and inform necessary adjustments to programmatic strategy.
- Manage the in-state contraceptive logistics and supply chain, which includes tracking the inventory of essential commodities (such as DMPA-SC) at the CMS, supervising weekly inventory cycle counts, and meticulously reconciling stock and distribution records.
- Coordinate local distribution logistics, ensuring secure transport, maintaining thorough records, and proactively preventing any misuse or diversion of health commodities.

Education and Experience
- A university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in Public Health, Project Management, Social Sciences, or another directly relevant field.
- A minimum of three (3) years of hands-on, progressive work experience in managing programs, public health initiatives, or development projects within the Nigerian context.
- Given our community model centers on female health providers, female candidates are strongly preferred for this role.
Core Competencies and Attributes
- Demonstrated proficiency in successfully collaborating with high-level government entities, particularly within the public health sector.
- Confirmed leadership capability in managing field teams and providing positive, constructive supervision.
- Expertise in data management, including quality assurance protocols and advanced use of data collection tools (e.g., SurveyCTO) and analytical spreadsheets (Excel/Google Sheets).
- Prior practical experience overseeing logistics, managing inventory records, or handling supply chain processes.
- Exceptional planning, organizational, and time management abilities, with a track record of meeting deadlines in high-pressure environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Mandatory proficiency in spoken and written Hausa is required.
- Unwavering commitment to organizational compliance, safeguarding policies, and maintaining the highest standards of integrity.
- The flexibility and willingness to travel frequently within Kano State, including often-remote areas, and to adapt working hours to meet critical field demands.
Compensation and Benefits
Competitive Compensation
The compensation package for this full-time, 12-month renewable contract (subject to performance and continued funding) is robust, including a gross monthly salary of ₦460,000 – ₦560,000, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
