Pharmacy Storekeeper: Ensuring Life-Saving Medical Supply Chain Integrity
A Critical Role in Humanitarian Action
In crisis and emergency settings, the difference between life and death often hinges on the immediate availability and quality of essential medical supplies. This role guarantees the integrity of the pharmaceutical supply chain, directly supporting MSF’s frontline clinicians to treat vulnerable populations affected by conflict, epidemics, and exclusion from healthcare. As the custodian of vital medical stock, the Pharmacy Storekeeper ensures every treatment is stored optimally and distributed rationally to maximize our life-saving impact in Kebbi State. We are seeking a dedicated professional ready to uphold these critical humanitarian standards.
Job Summary
The Pharmacy Storekeeper is responsible for the meticulous execution of all warehousing and inventory management activities for medical and pharmaceutical items within the MSF project in Kebbi. The successful candidate will ensure stock levels are consistently maintained above critical security thresholds, monitor compliance with stringent storage protocols, and uphold continuous, high-quality supply to all end-user health units and outreach activities. This position is fundamental to promoting effective and rational use of medical resources across the project.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
I. Medical Inventory and Quality Control
- Manage the medical warehouse and pharmacy stock according to established MSF protocols and pharmaceutical standards, ensuring materials are correctly stored, organized, and easily accessible.
- Rigidly monitor storage conditions, including tracking and documenting temperatures and humidity levels in the main storage area and cold chain equipment, ensuring full compliance with cold chain integrity protocols.
- Oversee the quarantine zone, ensuring items flagged for quality alerts, expiry, or damage are immediately isolated, secured, and safely prepared for disposal or return.
- Proactively monitor stock status, focusing on products nearing their alert limits, expiry dates (especially within the next six months), and instances of stock-out to prevent service disruption.
II. Supply Chain Logistics and Distribution
- Supervise the receipt of all incoming medical orders, verifying deliveries against manifests, reporting any discrepancies, and integrating stock into the storage system immediately.
- Prepare and process internal medical supply orders for consumption units (wards, clinics, outreach teams), ensuring accurate packaging, dispatch, and secure routing of items.
- Actively manage the movement and use of medical and biomedical inputs in outreach activities (such as ATFC and ICCM) to promote maximum efficiency and prevent misuse.
- Support the medical team by providing timely updates on central project stock status to facilitate accurate and rational input ordering.
III. Data Management and Compliance
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate inventory records, ensuring all transactions are correctly logged both on physical stock cards and within the required inventory management software.
- Execute or participate in regular, systematic stock inventories, including emergency preparedness (EPREP) stock counts, providing clear accountability for all medical items.
- Generate regular, detailed reports on stock levels, consumption patterns, and product shelf life for the Pharmacy Supervisor, promptly escalating any issues, losses, or security concerns.
- Ensure the security of the storage area by limiting access to authorized personnel and immediately reporting any damage, loss, or attempted theft to the line manager.
