Job Title: Nutrition Field Assistant
Location: Nganzai LGA, Borno State
Reports To: Nutrition Project Officer

Job Purpose:
The Nutrition Field Assistant will support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of community-based nutrition activities within the targeted communities in Nganzai LGA. The role focuses on identifying malnutrition cases, promoting improved nutrition practices, and strengthening community-level health systems in collaboration with local stakeholders. Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct community-level screening for acute malnutrition using Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) tapes and refer identified cases for appropriate treatment.
- Facilitate and coordinate monthly support group meetings for caregivers, with a focus on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices.
- Organize and conduct quarterly food cooking demonstrations using locally available and affordable foods to promote improved dietary diversity.
- Build and maintain relationships with local leaders, and coordinate quarterly community feedback sessions to ensure community engagement and ownership of the nutrition interventions.
- Monitor and track the distribution and intake of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) and ensure proper use and follow-up at household level.
- Participate in data collection, reporting, and documentation of activities in accordance with project indicators and donor requirements.
- Support community mobilization and sensitization campaigns around key nutrition and health themes.
- Provide regular updates and feedback to the Nutrition Project Officer on field activities, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.
- Ensure all activities are carried out in a culturally sensitive, gender-sensitive, and participatory manner.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health or
- Diploma in Nursing, Nutrition, Public Health, or a related field.
- Minimum of 1 year experience working in community-based nutrition programs, preferably with an NGO or in humanitarian settings.
- Strong knowledge of malnutrition prevention, treatment protocols, and nutrition promotion strategies.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) in English and preferably local languages (e.g., Kanuri or Hausa).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and sometimes insecure environment.
- Demonstrated ability to engage with local authorities, community leaders, and health workers.
- Basic proficiency in using smartphones or tablets for digital data collection and reporting is an added advantage.
