CONTEXT
Médecins Sans Frontières is a private, not-for-profit international humanitarian organization dedicated to providing medical assistance to populations in distress, without discrimination and regardless of race, religion, creed, or political affiliation.
MSF has been active in Katsina since February 2021 after carrying out an exploratory mission that ended with the opening of the project.
Currently, MSF is running an ITFC (Inpatient Therapeutic Feeding Centre) in Katsina in the Kofar Sauri PHCC and 4 ATFC (Ambulatory Therapeutic Feeding Centres), including three in Jibia LGA (Magama, Daddara, Riko) and one in Katsina City (Kofar Marusa).
MAIN PURPOSE
Plan, organize, and evaluate the activities concerning nursing and the team associated, according to MSF values, policies, and protocols and universal health standards, in order to warrant the quality and continuity of the healthcare and the development of the plan of action.
JOB DESCRIPTION

Carry out the functions and tasks associated with nursing (e.g., perform as a nurse or anesthetist) whenever required or needed, in order to optimize resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience.

Implement all protocols and hygiene procedures and supervise his/her team to follow the same standards, in order to ensure the quality of care and service in his/her specialty.

Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (weekly schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to ensure coverage of human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality.

Carry out and/or supervise the (decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment management (drug orders, follow-up of stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drug consumption, etc.) in his/her department, in order to meet material needs efficiently and effectively.

Ensure all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensure cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to protocols. Report any malfunction to the project biomedical service.

Carry out and/or coordinate administrative tasks (exit papers, transfer papers, etc.), information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) and elaborate regular reports to ensure updated and reliable information about daily activity, output/outcome, and to support decision-making.

Give feedback/reports to the medical focal point.

Supervise, in close coordination with the Deputy Head Nurse/HN/EAM, the associated processes (recruitment, training, evaluation, development, and communication) of the nutrition staff of the project to ensure appropriate staffing and skill levels.

Supervise the implementation of the nutritional program according to MSF protocols and standards, including drawing up outpatient activity planning.

Follow up patient evolution and discuss problem cases in the medical assistant’s round, install referral systems according to protocol.

Check that medical and nutrition prescriptions are carried out.

Check the diffusion, knowledge, and application of medical, nutritional, and anthropometric protocols.

Ensure caregivers are well informed about ITFC/ATFC functioning, child’s status, and tasks (help with cleaning, feeding, etc.).

Supervise, with the pharmacist, pharmacy management, including reception and storage of orders, preparation of orders, supervising expiration dates and consumption patterns, ensuring rational use and stock levels above minimum safety point.
Additional duties:

Ensure correct nutritional data collection (daily tally sheets, registers, nutritional forms, ITFC/ATFC cards), compile daily/weekly statistics for inpatients, report to line manager, and provide team feedback.

Ensure all biomedical items are available and proper handovers are conducted.

Do weekly inventory and ensure orders match pharmacy requirements.

Ensure all MSF standard list items are available in ward/facility.

Monitor daily pharmacy item consumption, control critical unit drug SOPs.

Organize reception/testing/distribution of patient food with HP team.
-
Collaborate with Nurses Trainer for training plan and implementation, provide bedside/on-job training.

Plan and participate in routine departmental meetings/trainings/morbidity and mortality reviews.

Perform any other tasks within scope of specialty, as defined in job description and by line manager.

Verify daily consumption and monitoring of RUTF/other consumables and report any fraud.
REQUIREMENTS
Education
-
Specialty (nurse) diploma and valid license essential.

Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BNSc) desired.

Certificate in nutrition or related field is an added advantage (e.g., pediatric nutrition, maternal and child health).
Experience
-
Minimum 2 years’ previous experience as Nurse/Nurse Team Supervisor in a nutrition project.

Experience with MSF or other NGOs in developing countries is desirable.

Prior experience as Nurse Team Supervisor is an added advantage.
Languages

Mission and local language essential (Hausa).

208 working hours per month.
REMUNERATION
According to MSF salary scale plus 13th month allowance equivalent to 1 month of gross salary.
