About Center for Child Care and Human Development (C3HD)
C3HD is a Child-Centered and Women-Focused (CCWF) non-governmental, non-tribal, non-religious, and non-profit organization established in 2017. Our mission is to transform the lives of women and children on the edges of society, helping them regain and pursue their dreams for sustainable development.
For over 5 years, operating in Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, and Kano States, C3HD acts as an agent for change. We respond to the needs of the most vulnerable communities, especially women, children, people with disabilities, and those affected by conflict and insurgency. Our work maximizes contributions to Healthcare and Wellbeing, Education, WASH, Protection, Peace Building, and Economic Recovery/Livelihood. We employ the “protective communities’ approach” by mainstreaming safeguarding and protection across all our activities.
The Opportunity: Nurse (Volunteer)
We are seeking passionate and dedicated Nurses to join our team in Nguru, Yobe State. This is a crucial volunteer role supporting our efforts to reduce inequality in accessing health services for vulnerable populations, catering to their health and wellbeing, and responding to violence and exclusion.
Key Responsibilities
The Nurse will provide high-quality direct nursing care, maintain clinical standards, and support community health initiatives.
Clinical Care & Stabilization:
- Provide direct nursing care, conducting triage, vital signs, and patient assessments following approved clinical guidelines.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and injections as prescribed.
- Provide first aid, wound care, and emergency stabilization.
- Ensure safe patient referral and follow-up where necessary.
Maternal, Child & Community Health:
- Support antenatal, postnatal, and neonatal care, assisting with safe delivery when required.
- Conduct community or facility-based health education on hygiene, nutrition, maternal health, and disease awareness.
- Ensure beneficiaries are aware of PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) reporting mechanisms.
Infection Control & Logistics:
- Maintain strict Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) practices in all clinical activities.
- Ensure proper drug storage, stock monitoring, and consumption documentation.
- Request timely medical supplies and ensure their proper utilization.
Reporting & Collaboration:
- Record all patient information accurately in registers and medical forms, reporting daily/weekly/monthly activities to the supervisor.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information.
- Work collaboratively with doctors, midwives, Community Health Workers (CHWs), volunteers, and support staff.
- Report any safeguarding concerns through appropriate channels.
Qualifications & Experience
Qualifications (Education & Licensing)
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing, or Community Health Nursing from an accredited institution.
- Required: Valid and current practicing license from the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
- Added Advantage: Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Emergency Care.
- Knowledge of Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) standards.
- Training in Reproductive Health, Maternal & Child Health, or Nutrition is an asset.
- Familiarity with clinical protocols and guidelines (national and WHO).
Experience
- Minimum 2–3 years working experience as a Nurse in a hospital, clinic, PHC, or humanitarian health program.
- Experience in delivery, patient assessment, triage, medication management, and wound care.
- Experience working with children, pregnant women, and vulnerable populations.
- Experience maintaining medical records and reporting tools.
- Previous work with an NGO or humanitarian project is an added advantage.
- Experience implementing IPC protocols and managing outbreaks (e.g., cholera, measles).
- Ability to work under pressure, in remote or emergency settings.
