Job Title: Note Taker / Transcriber / Translator

Location: Kebbi

Purpose of the Assignment

The purpose of this assignment is to engage research consultants who will conduct qualitative surveys, including Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), as part of a study to evaluate a hybrid model of malaria vaccine delivery in highly seasonal malaria transmission settings.

Scope of the Assignment

The consultancy aims to support Malaria Consortium in generating evidence for an effective hybrid model of malaria vaccine delivery. This includes assessing the feasibility, acceptability, and impact of the model in areas with high seasonal malaria transmission.

The qualitative survey will involve conducting interviews and FGDs across three LGAs in Kebbi State, where the project is being implemented. The study will employ purposive sampling to ensure a diverse range of participants, including national and sub-national policymakers, program managers, and community health workers.

Methodology

The study will use a framework of constructs from feasibility studies to develop topic guides for both FGDs and KIIs. Data will be collected by local researchers, with second research assistants present for note-taking and recording observations. All interviews and FGDs will be conducted in-person or virtually, depending on the participants’ preferences.

The key outcomes to be measured include:

  • Acceptability: Satisfaction and adherence to the hybrid model by health workers (HWs), and perceptions of the benefits and risks from the community and health workers.

  • Appropriateness: Perceptions of the seasonal messaging’s relevance to vaccine uptake improvement.

  • Practicality and Sustainability: Health system capacity to implement the hybrid approach and manage supplies, as well as the perceived sustainability of the model.

  • Adoption and Fidelity: Health workers’ and community health workers’ uptake and consistency in implementing the hybrid approach.

Expected Outputs / Deliverables

  • Transcriptions of interview and FGD records.

  • Translations of interview and FGD transcriptions (from Hausa to English).

  • Daily reports submitted to the Research Team lead.

  • Documentation of all findings from the interview guide, FGD guide, and observation guide.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Attend training sessions on using the interview and FGD guides.

  • Collect data by taking notes during interviews and FGDs.

  • Transcribe audio recordings of interviews and FGDs verbatim.

  • Translate transcriptions from Hausa to English.

  • Ensure data is handled in line with the approved research protocol, maintaining the integrity and security of the data.

  • Report any challenges that might affect compliance with the research protocol.

Essential Qualifications

  • OND/HND or BSc in a relevant academic field.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in qualitative data collection or professional translation.
