About Center for Child Care and Human Development (C3HD)

C3HD is a Child-Centered and Women-Focused (CCWF) non-governmental, non-tribal, non-religious, and non-profit organization established in 2017. Our core mission is to transform the lives of women and children on the edges of society, helping them regain and pursue their dreams for sustainable development.

For over 5 years, operating in Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, and Kano States, C3HD acts as an agent for change. We respond to the needs of the most vulnerable communities, especially women, children, people with disabilities, and those affected by conflict and insurgency. Our work maximizes contributions to Healthcare and Wellbeing, Protection, Peace Building, and Economic Recovery/Livelihood. We employ the “protective communities’ approach” by mainstreaming safeguarding and protection across all our activities.

The Opportunity: Midwife (Volunteer)

We are seeking two skilled and compassionate Midwives to join our team in Nguru, Yobe State. This is a critical volunteer role focused on reducing maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality by providing essential, high-quality care to vulnerable women and adolescent girls during pregnancy, labor, and the postnatal period.

Key Responsibilities

The Midwife will provide comprehensive maternal and newborn care, ensure clinical safety, and actively engage in community health education.

Skilled Maternal & Newborn Care:

  • Provide skilled midwifery services across the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods.
  • Conduct safe and clean deliveries according to WHO and national guidelines.
  • Monitor labour using partographs and ensure timely interventions.
  • Provide comprehensive newborn care, including resuscitation when needed.
  • Provide family planning counselling and services.

Emergency Management & Safety:

  • Identify and manage obstetric emergencies and ensure timely referral of complex cases.
  • Maintain a clean, safe delivery environment and ensure the sterilization of equipment.
  • Adhere strictly to Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) protocols and universal precautions, including proper waste disposal.

Health Education & Community Engagement:

  • Conduct health talks for pregnant women and caregivers on key topics like Nutrition, Birth preparedness, Newborn care, Breastfeeding, Danger signs, and Postpartum care.
  • Promote awareness on PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse), safeguarding, and women’s rights.
  • Ensure beneficiaries know the complaints and feedback mechanisms.
  • Support community outreach and reproductive health campaigns when needed.

Documentation & Ethics:

  • Maintain accurate maternity registers, ANC/PNC records, and delivery reports.
  • Track and report maternal and newborn health indicators to supervisors.
  • Ensure strict confidentiality of patient information.
  • Uphold professional ethical standards and treat all patients with respect and dignity.
  • Report any GBV (Gender-Based Violence) or SEA concerns following organizational procedures.
  • Work closely with doctors, nurses, community health workers, and other staff.

Qualifications & Experience

Qualifications (Education & Licensing)

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in Midwifery from a recognized institution.
  • Required: A valid practicing license from the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
  • Essential Training: Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC).
  • Added Advantage: Training in Advanced Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation, or Helping Babies Breathe.
  • Knowledge of Maternal and Child Health protocols (ANC, PNC, FP).
  • Strong understanding of infection prevention and control (IPC) and safe delivery standards.
  • Computer literacy is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 2–3 years professional experience as a Midwife in a hospital, PHC, or maternity center.
  • Proven experience conducting normal deliveries, managing labour, and identifying complications.
  • Experience providing antenatal, postnatal, and newborn care.
  • Experience working with women, adolescent girls, and vulnerable populations.
  • NGO or humanitarian health program experience is an advantage.
  • Experience accurately documenting births, referrals, and health service data.
  • Ability to work effectively in high-volume or emergency settings.
