About Société de Développement International

Société de Développement International (SDI), an international development company and research and development firm headquartered in Canada, is seeking several Field Agents (Community Facilitators/Extension Agents) to support the implementation of a development project in Niger.

About the Project

The project aims to strengthen agricultural productivity, economic inclusion, nutrition, food systems and local institutional capacity in the departments of Dakoro and Gazaoua.

The assignment will support activities including:

  • Installation and operationalization of 25 solar-powered agro-processing units.
  • Development of at least 5 value-added products from cowpea and peanuts.
  • Training of 600 women and youth on processing, quality, hygiene, packaging, storage, business management and market linkages.
  • Training and support for 40 community relays and 6 municipal health workers.
  • Establishment of 15 Community Nutrition Monitoring and Vigilance Groups (CNMVGs).
  • Strengthening of local institutions, producer organizations and entrepreneurs through assessments, training and public-private dialogue.
  • Identification of financial barriers and development of financial inclusion mechanisms.
  • Production of high-quality reports, evidence and handover documentation.

Expected Outcomes

The programme is expected to achieve the following outcomes:

  1. Strengthen the productivity and climate resilience of cowpea, peanut and market gardening production systems in Dakoro and Gazaoua through sustainable and climate-smart agricultural practices.
  2. Strengthen the technical, entrepreneurial and organizational capacities of 50 producer organizations, particularly those led by women and young people, to improve production, processing, marketing and access to financing.
  3. Improve the diet and nutrition of 24,500 people, including through school canteens and increased consumption of locally produced, nutritious foods.
  4. Strengthen institutional frameworks at local and national levels to support an inclusive environment for sustainable and coordinated food systems initiatives, including the promotion of targeted value chains and improved food and nutrition security.

The programme aligns with Niger’s national development priorities, including Axis 3, “Development of production bases for economic sovereignty,” as well as relevant agricultural and rural development policies and strategies.

It also contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF 2023–2027) and the Niger Food Sovereignty Support Program (PASA-Niger 2025–2027).

Programme Focus Areas

The programme operates across four complementary pathways:

1. Agricultural Resilience and Productivity

Strengthening the productivity and climate resilience of cowpea, peanuts and market gardening.

2. Economic Inclusion of Women and Youth

Supporting the economic empowerment of women and young people through inclusive agricultural value chains.

3. Nutrition and Consumption of Local Agricultural Products

Improving rural nutrition through increased consumption of locally produced agricultural products.

4. Institutional Coordination and Local Ownership

Strengthening institutional frameworks and coordination among stakeholders to support sustainability and local ownership.

Key Responsibilities

The Field Agents will support project implementation through:

  • Community mobilization and coordination.
  • Supporting the delivery of training activities.
  • Follow-up and technical coaching of beneficiaries.
  • Monitoring activities and collecting project data.
  • Documenting project results and success stories.
  • Supporting knowledge sharing and dissemination.
  • Working closely with communities, producer organizations, local institutions and other project stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should have:

  • BEPC + 2 or 3, or BAC+2 in a relevant field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant professional experience.

Experience should cover one or more of the following areas:

  • Community mobilization and coordination.
  • Training support and facilitation.
  • Follow-up and technical coaching.
  • Monitoring and data collection.
  • Documentation of results and success stories.
  • Knowledge sharing and dissemination.
