Organization: ActionAid Nigeria (AAN)
Project: Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership (RWVL)
Location: Abuja (FCT)
Job Type: Full-time Consultancy
Reporting Line: Project Specialist (RWVL) with matrix to Communications Coordinator
THE STRATEGIC CONTEXT
ActionAid Nigeria is seeking a creative and technically proficient Brand and Visibility Consultant to lead the communication strategy for the RWVL project. This role is central to amplifying feminist advocacy in Nigeria through the management of the Feminist Hub—a digital sanctuary and resource center for women’s rights stories, publications, and multimedia content.
The successful consultant will bridge the gap between high-level brand strategy and technical website optimization, ensuring our advocacy efforts are both visible and impactful.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Feminist Hub & Digital Management
- Technical Oversight: Manage the Feminist Hub website, ensuring it aligns with project brand guidelines and accessibility standards.
- Content Creation: Design compelling infographics, e-fliers, and SBCC materials that tell feminine stories with dignity and power.
- Growth & Engagement: Execute SEO and social media strategies to grow the Hub’s subscriber base and increase web traffic.
- Multimedia Archiving: Systematically organize documentaries, podcasts, and photographs in a secure repository.
2. Brand Identity & Visibility Strategy
- Cohesive Identity: Develop and implement a unified brand strategy for the RWVL project that enhances public recognition.
- Stakeholder Alignment: Collaborate with CBOs and LWROs (Local Women’s Rights Organizations) to ensure branding is culturally relevant and aligned.
- Event Coordination: Design and support visibility for webinars, public forums, and community engagement events.
3. Knowledge Management & Capacity Building
- Documentation: Manage the project’s photo documentation and repository (SharePoint/Google Drive).
- Learning Guides: Develop simplified branding guides and facilitate capacity-building sessions for partners and staff.
- Reporting: Contribute to donor reports and project proposals, ensuring communication goals are reflected in technical narratives.
CANDIDATE SPECIFICATIONS
Education & Technical Qualifications
- Degree: First degree in Computer Science, IT, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years as a Website Manager.
- Technical Stack: Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, MySQL, Adobe Creative Suite, and Content Management Systems (CMS).
- SEO Mastery: Deep understanding of Search Engine Optimization to drive organic growth.
Skills & Personal Qualities
- Advocacy Mindset: Ability to translate complex feminist issues into simple, visual learning guides.
- Creativity: A self-motivated individual who takes initiative in visual storytelling.
- Diversity: Ability to work effectively in a diverse, feminist-oriented team environment.
- Communication: Excellent writing and content creation skills in English.
Success Blueprint: Brand & Visibility Consultant (RWVL)
This role at ActionAid is unconventional because it requires “Feminist Technical Expertise.” You aren’t just managing a website; you are managing an advocacy platform.
1. The Technical “Must-Haves”
Unlike many communications roles, this one explicitly asks for a Computer Science or IT degree.
- The Reason: You will be responsible for the “Feminist Hub” back-end (MySQL, HTML, Firewalls).
- Success Factor: In your interview, be ready to discuss how you maintain site security (firewalls) while ensuring a user-friendly experience for non-technical community members.
2. Branding with a Feminist Lens
The RWVL project is about “Women’s Voice.” Your branding must reflect this.
- Visual Storytelling: Avoid “stereotypical” imagery. Focus on designs that represent power, agency, and local cultural nuances.
- Inclusivity: Ensure the Feminist Hub is accessible to users with low bandwidth or different digital literacies.
3. Key Working Relationships: The “Matrix”
You report to the Project Specialist but have a “Matrix” report to the Communications Coordinator.
- The Strategy: You must be able to satisfy the programmatic needs of the RWVL project (impact stories) while adhering to the global branding standards of ActionAid Nigeria’s Communications Hub.
4. Metrics of Success
How will ActionAid know you are doing a good job?
- Traffic Growth: Can you prove an increase in unique visitors to the Feminist Hub?
- Archiving Excellence: Is the SharePoint repository organized so that a donor report can find a photo from Gulani or Tarmua in 30 seconds?
- Partner Autonomy: Are the local partners (LWROs) better at branding their own activities because of your training?
5. Application Tip
Since this role is a Consultancy, your portfolio is your best asset. When you apply online:
- Include links to websites you have managed.
- Attach samples of infographics or factsheets you have designed (preferably for the social development sector).
- Mention your experience with W3C Web Standards, as this is a specific technical requirement in the job description.
Your mission is to make the invisible, visible. Good luck!
METHOD OF APPLICATION
Interested and qualified candidates should submit their application through the ActionAid recruitment portal.
