  • Independent Advocacy: Interact independently with clients to identify needs and formulate advocacy plans for quality-of-life issues.

The U.S. Mission provides equal opportunity and fair treatment in employment to all people.

Success Blueprint: Assistant CLO Coordinator (Abuja)

The Assistant CLO (A/CLO) position is a “front-line responder” role. The Embassy is looking for someone who combines administrative excellence with high-level emotional intelligence. Use this guide to optimize your ERA application:

1. The “Front-Line” Narrative

In your application, emphasize your experience as a “problem solver” for individuals.

  • The Task: You must show you can handle quality-of-life issues with Good Judgment.
  • Pro-Tip: In your “Major Duties” section on the ERA portal, describe a time you advocated for a client or managed a complex customer service situation. Mention how you balanced the needs of the individual with organizational policy.

2. Focus on “Data & Reports”

Unlike the lead Coordinator role, the Assistant role often handles the heavy lifting of Data Collection.

  • Requirement: The ad specifically asks for “experience in data collection and report writing.”
  • Strategy: Highlight any experience you have with surveys, community feedback loops, or administrative reporting. If you have tracked program success using metrics or KPIs, include that detail.

3. Demonstrating “Independent Interaction”

The Assistant is expected to “interact independently” with clients.

  • Key Attribute: The Embassy wants to know you don’t need constant hand-holding.
  • Keywords to Use: “Proactive,” “Self-starter,” “Independent coordination,” and “Autonomous project management.”

4. Mastery of the “Eight Areas”

Even as an Assistant, you must know the Department of State’s CLO framework.

  • Education: Mention resources for schooling.
  • Transitions: Mention welcoming/orientations.
  • Employment: Mention family member employment assistance.
  • Morale: Mention event planning.
  • Crisis: Mention information dissemination during security alerts.

5. Critical ERA Application Tips

  • Don’t Skip Sections: The Embassy explicitly warns that failing to address education, experience, or language requirements will result in disqualification.
  • The 6-Week Rule: Ensure your background is “clean” for a Top Secret clearance. Be ready to pivot into the role quickly—delays beyond 6 weeks can end your candidacy.
  • Language Requirement: Address your English proficiency (Speaking, Reading, Writing) directly in the ERA text boxes as requested.

6. Final Checklist

  • [ ] College Credits: Confirm you have at least 60 credit hours (2 years) of university study.
  • [ ] CV Alignment: Does your professional history show at least 3 years in a “high-stress” or “fast-paced” environment?
  • [ ] Top Secret Ready: Are you prepared for an intensive background and medical investigation?

You are the support system for the mission’s families. Apply with excellence.
