About the Project
Société de Développement International (SDI), a Canada-headquartered research and development firm, is seeking an Agro-Processing and Enterprise Development Specialist to support the implementation of a development project in Niger.
The project focuses on strengthening agricultural value chains, agro-processing, economic opportunities for women and youth, nutrition, entrepreneurship and financial inclusion.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess processing opportunities for market-garden products, cowpea and peanuts.
- Support the design and installation of small-scale agro-processing units.
- Support the development and testing of value-added products.
- Train women and youth groups on processing, packaging, quality standards and business management.
- Facilitate market linkages for processed products.
- Support value-chain development initiatives.
- Facilitate public-private dialogue on market access and local procurement.
- Assess financing constraints affecting women and youth entrepreneurs.
- Promote financial literacy and entrepreneurship training.
- Contribute to Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Knowledge Management activities.
- Support the operationalization of 25 solar-powered agro-processing units.
- Contribute to the development of at least 5 value-added products from cowpea and peanuts.
- Support training activities targeting 600 women and youth.
Project Focus
The wider programme aims to strengthen the productivity and climate resilience of cowpea, peanut and market-gardening systems in Dakoro and Gazaoua, strengthen 50 producer organizations, improve nutrition for approximately 24,500 people, and strengthen institutional coordination for food-system initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (BAC+4 or BAC+5) in a relevant field.
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in the relevant area of expertise.
- Experience relevant to agro-processing, value-chain development and enterprise support.
- Ability to support training and capacity-building activities for women and youth.
- Ability to work with producer organizations, entrepreneurs and other project stakeholders.
- Experience contributing to monitoring, evaluation, learning and knowledge-management activities.
