Job Title: Interim Finance Manager

 

Location: Hybrid (Lagos-based preferred) – Remote option considered for exceptional candidates

Employment Type: Contract (Transition Role – 3 Months)

Reporting Line: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Engagement Type: Fixed-term, Interim (Expert Hire)

Duration: Three (3) months

Functional Oversight: Finance / Business Operations Advisor

 

Purpose of the Role

 

ElectHER is a donor-funded, non-partisan organisation advancing women’s leadership and representation across Africa.

The organisation is undergoing a finance leadership transition and seeks an Interim Finance Manager to provide short-term operational leadership and ensure continuity, control, and donor compliance within the Finance Department.

This is a hands-on, expert-level role.

The Interim Finance Manager is expected to hit the ground running, work with minimal supervision, and stabilise finance operations during the transition period.

Role Summary

The Interim Finance Manager will lead the day-to-day finance function, ensuring:

 

Strong financial controls and documentation discipline

Accurate and timely accounting and reporting

Effective donor finance management and audit readiness

The role works closely with the CEO and under the strategic guidance of the Finance / Business Operations Advisor, while coordinating with programme teams and business operations as required.

This is not an entry-level or learning role.

Key Responsibilities

Finance Governance & Controls:

 

Implement and enforce finance policies, SOPs, and internal controls

Ensure segregation of duties, approval workflows, and audit-ready documentation

Support finance transition activities and knowledge transfer

Accounting Processes & Systems:

 

Oversee bookkeeping, journal entries, and transaction coding

Complete monthly bank reconciliations

Manage monthly close and prepare management accounts

Maintain accounting systems (e.g. QuickBooks) and audit trails

Support statutory filings and respond to audit queries.

Grants & Donor Finance:

 

Manage donor-funded project finances in line with grant agreements

Track grant budgets, expenditures, and burn rates

Prepare donor financial reports and variance analyses

Maintain complete, audit-ready donor finance folders

Support donor audits and financial reviews.

Cashflow & Stewardship:

 

Support cashflow forecasting and liquidity monitoring

Process payments in line with documentation and approval requirements

Oversee payroll preparation and staff cost tracking

Maintain asset registers and escalate financial risks promptly.

Key Deliverables (Within 3 Months)

 

Monthly management accounts delivered on schedule (3 cycles)

Monthly bank reconciliations completed for all accounts

Up-to-date grant trackers and donor finance documentation

Donor financial reports submitted on time and quality-assured

Audit-ready donor and operational finance folders

Clear handover notes and documentation for post-transition continuity.

Accountability & Working Cadence:

 

Weekly check-ins with the Finance / Business Operations Advisor

Weekly or bi-weekly check-ins with the CEO (as required)

Participation in monthly planning and review meetings

Use of agreed trackers and the Finance Hub for documentation

Immediate escalation of material risks or compliance issues.

Required Profile

Essential:

 

7–10 years’ experience in finance, with strong NGO/donor-funded experience

Proven expertise in donor compliance, reporting, and audits

Hands-on experience with accounting systems (e.g. QuickBooks)

Strong understanding of internal controls and audit requirements

Ability to operate independently and deliver under pressure.

Desirable:

 

Experience with EU, bilateral, or foundation-funded projects

Prior interim or transition finance leadership experience.

Duration & Commercial Terms:

 

Contract Duration: 3 months

Time Commitment: Day-to-day operational engagement during transition

Fees: Monthly fee (to be agreed, based on experience)

Payment Terms: Monthly invoicing, Net

Expenses: Pre-approved, reimbursable expenses only (if applicable)

Conditions of Engagement:

 

Interim consultancy role (not employment)

No signatory authority unless explicitly approved

All work products remain the property of ElectHER

Confidentiality obligations apply during and after the engagement

Either party may terminate with 14 days’ written notice.
