Position Summary

Position Title: HR Officer
Location: Abuja
Contract Type:  Full-time
Reports to: Human Resources Manager
Date: August 2025

Main responsibility

The HR Officer will be responsible for providing comprehensive HR support to ensure the effective management of human resources in the organization. This role involves implementing HR policies, managing recruitment processes, supporting employee relations, and ensuring compliance with employment laws. The HR Officer will also play a key role in fostering a positive workplace culture and supporting the overall HR strategy of the organization. Under the leadership of the Head of HR and reporting to the HR Manager, the HR Officer will work closely with all departments within the organization to support their HR needs. The role is integral to ensuring the organization’s HR practices are aligned with its strategic objectives and contribute to a positive and productive work environment. The HR Officer will be expected to uphold the organization’s values and work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve shared goals.

The HR Officer will also contribute to the day-to-day management of HR administration, applying a DEI lens to their work and supporting the HR team in fostering a culture that is empowering, and collaborative, ensuring employee engagement and commitment.

The successful candidate will combine technical skills in Human Resources Management, ideally in an international, NGO and/or Aid context, with creativity and enthusiasm for CCSI’s mission and goals. They will be a tactful communicator and an excellent, active, and empathic listener who deeply value the ideas and concerns of their colleagues. The HR Officer must demonstrate a deep commitment to employee engagement and well-being.

Responsibilities

1. Recruitment and Selection:

  • Support the HR Manager in developing and implementing a talent acquisition strategy Integrating diversity equity and inclusion and fostering an inclusive workplace culture.
  • Coordinate the end-to-end recruitment process, including drafting job descriptions, posting vacancies, screening applications, and scheduling interviews.
  • Assist in conducting interviews, reference checks, and making employment offers.
  • Ensure a smooth onboarding process for new hires, including conducting orientation sessions and ensuring all necessary documentation is completed.

2. Employee Relations and Engagement:

  • Act as the first point of contact for employee inquiries and guide HR policies and procedures.
  • Support the resolution of employee grievances and conflicts, ensuring a fair and consistent approach.
  • Promote employee engagement initiatives and organize events that enhance team cohesion and morale.

3. HR Administration:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, including personal information, contracts, and performance evaluations.
  • Prepare HR reports and analytics for management review, including data on turnover, recruitment, and employee satisfaction.
  • Manage employee benefits administration, including health insurance, leave management, and other welfare programs.

4. Performance Management:

  • Support the implementation of the performance management system, including setting performance goals, conducting appraisals, and providing feedback.
  • Assist in identifying training and development needs based on performance reviews and organizational goals.
  • Monitor probationary periods and ensure timely performance reviews and decisions.

5. Compliance and Policy Implementation:

  • Ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations, including health and safety standards, employment contracts, and employee rights.
  • Support the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures in line with organizational goals and legal requirements.
  • Support continual review of existing policies that ensure CCSI’s processes and procedures are up-to-date, legally compliant, relevant, and effective
  • Keep abreast of changes in employment legislation and update HR practices accordingly.

6. Learning and Development:

  • Assist in identifying training needs and coordinating relevant training programs for employees.
  • Maintain training records and ensure that employees have access to continuous professional development opportunities.
  • Support the evaluation of training programs to ensure their effectiveness in meeting organizational needs.
  1. Qualification

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in an HR generalist role or similar HR position.
  • Strong knowledge of labor laws and regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.

Desirable Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Professional certification in HR (e.g., HRCI, CIPMN, CIPD, SHRM, or similar) is an advantage.
  • Experience in employee relations, conflict resolution, and handling disciplinary processes.
  • Knowledge of performance management systems and experience in conducting appraisals.
  • Experience in organizing and conducting training programs.
  • Proficiency in at least 1 HRIS
  • Familiarity with HR metrics and analytics.
