Role Overview
In the field of international development, reliable transport is often the critical determinant of whether life-saving services reach their destination. This essential role ensures the safety of our program staff and the integrity of medical supplies, bridging the distance between operational hubs and community health centers. By maintaining the highest standards of vehicle care and road safety, the successful candidate will play a foundational part in strengthening health systems and directly enabling positive RMNCH+N outcomes across Jigawa State.
Job Summary
The Field Operations Driver is responsible for delivering safe, punctual, and professional transportation services to support the CARMNIS project’s daily activities. The role encompasses operational logistics, meticulous vehicle maintenance, and strict adherence to organizational safety protocols, thereby ensuring the uninterrupted functionality of all state-level field missions and program support.
Core Responsibilities
Safety and Vehicle Operations
- Secure Transit: Operate assigned vehicles safely and responsibly for all official duties, strictly complying with national traffic laws and Pathfinder’s security policies.
- Passenger Safety: Rigorously enforce all safety standards, including mandatory seatbelt use for all occupants.
- Incident Reporting: Proactively identify and promptly report any security concerns, traffic incidents, or accidents through established communication channels.
Vehicle Maintenance and Care
- Roadworthiness Checks: Conduct mandatory daily pre-trip inspections (checking fluid levels, brakes, lights, and tires) to ensure vehicles are consistently roadworthy.
- Preventative Maintenance: Monitor service schedules, ensuring all assigned vehicles receive timely maintenance, valid insurance, and updated licensing.
- Cleanliness: Maintain the interior and exterior of the vehicle to an exceptionally high standard.
Logistical and Field Support
- Courier Services: Provide essential courier support, handling the secure delivery and collection of official documents and correspondence.
- Supply Chain: Assist the program team with the safe loading, unloading, and transportation of medical supplies, equipment, and training materials to various LGAs.
- Program Timeliness: Collaborate closely with program teams to coordinate movement schedules, ensuring staff arrive at training sites and field locations precisely as planned.
Documentation and Compliance
- Accurate Records: Maintain comprehensive and accurate vehicle logbooks, meticulously recording details of mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities for audit purposes.
- Reporting: Prepare and submit clear, detailed monthly reports on vehicle usage and fuel consumption to the Administration and Finance teams.
- Ethical Conduct: Uphold Pathfinder’s code of conduct and safeguarding policies, representing the organization professionally at all times.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education & Professional Experience
- Education: Minimum of a Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
- License: Must possess a valid Nigerian national driver’s license and demonstrate an impeccable driving record.
- Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of professional driving experience, preferably acquired while working with an international NGO, donor-funded project, or development organization.
- Local Knowledge: Proven ability to navigate and drive effectively in diverse rural and urban environments within Jigawa State.
Skills & Competencies
- Vehicle Expertise: Strong practical skills in defensive driving techniques and basic mechanical troubleshooting for minor vehicle repairs.
- Navigation: Comprehensive knowledge of local geography, road networks, and regional security considerations.
- Documentation: Foundational ability to maintain administrative records and complete vehicle logbooks accurately.
- Professionalism: Strong commitment to customer service, teamwork, and maintaining confidentiality on all work-related matters.
- Physical Requirements: Must possess 20/20 vision (with corrective lenses if needed) and the physical ability to operate and maintain the assigned vehicle.
