Job Title: Data Collection Officer (Team Member)

Location: Jos, Plateau
Employment Type: Part-time
Reports to: Field Supervisor / M&E Officer / Project Manager
Work Mode: Field-based (project sites, communities, or designated regions)
Contract Type: Short-term / Project-based

Job Summary

  • The Data Collection Team is responsible for gathering accurate, reliable, and timely information to support program monitoring, evaluation, research, and reporting.
  • Team members will conduct field visits, administer surveys or questionnaires, carry out interviews, record observations, and ensure data integrity in line with project objectives and ethical standards.
  • The Future Stars Initiative, in collaboration with partner local NGOs, is conducting a comprehensive data collection exercise on out-of-school children across Plateau State.
  • This effort aims to generate reliable evidence that will inform advocacy, policy decisions, and targeted interventions to improve access to education for vulnerable children.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field data collection using paper-based forms, tablets, or mobile applications.
  • Administer structured and semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, and household surveys.
  • Ensure informed consent is obtained and confidentiality of respondents is maintained.
  • Verify accuracy and completeness of data before submission.
  • Work closely with field supervisors to resolve issues encountered during data collection.
  • Report daily progress and challenges to the supervisor.
  • Adhere to timelines, data quality protocols, and ethical guidelines.
  • Safeguard project equipment (phones, tablets, GPS devices, etc.) used for data collection.
  • Maintain professionalism and neutrality while engaging with community members.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum of a Diploma / Degree in Social Sciences, Statistics, Public Health, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in field data collection, surveys, or research preferred.
  • Familiarity with mobile data collection tools (e.g., KoboToolbox, ODK, SurveyCTO, CommCare) is an asset.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse populations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Fluency in English and local languages of the project area.
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
