Rec Room Wellness is a social enterprise dedicated to addressing the global mental health crisis by creating safe and brave spaces for relaxation, education, and fun. At our events, you will learn important topics to boost your awareness of your mental health, put words to feelings, and build resilience against the adversities of life. You will also practice self-care activities, learn new hobbies, and create connections with like-minded community members. We also offer wellness workshops for students and staff, longitudinal wellness cohorts, and in-person wellness events and retreats.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Content Writer (Volunteer)
Location: Lagos
Objective
- To consistently produce high-quality, SEO-optimized, original blog content that supports Rec Room Wellness’ mission to help young adults achieve optimal mental wellness through education, community building, and the practice of fun. Our content aims to educate, inspire, and offer practical guidance while reflecting empathy and scientific grounding.
Content & Submission Schedule
- Publishing Day: Every other Wednesday
- Outline Due: Monday before the publish date (by EOD)
- Final Draft Due: Thursday before publish date (by EOD)
Example: For a blog going live on Wednesday, June 11:
- Outline due: Monday, June 2 (EOD)
- Final draft due: Thursday, June 5 (EOD)
Content Requirements
- Length: 800–1,200 words
- Tone: Warm, informative, inclusive, and empathetic
- Style: Conversational, clear, and accessible (8th–10th grade reading level)
- Topics: Wellness practices, mindfulness, emotional regulation, community healing, etc.
Structure:
- Engaging intro
- Clear section headings (H2s/H3s)
- Short paragraphs (4-6 lines each)
- Bullet points or numbered lists when useful
- Strong CTA at the end (e.g., “Join our next wellness session”)
SEO Guidelines
Each blog post must include:
- 1 primary keyword and 2–3 secondary keywords
- Use the primary keyword in:
- The title
- At least one subheading
- First 100 words
- 3–5 times naturally in the body
- Include:
- Internal links to other Rec Room blogs or pages
- 1–2 external links to credible sources (e.g., APA, CDC, NIMH, etc.)
- A meta description (150–160 characters) that includes the primary keyword
Graphic Suggestions
Each blog post must include:
- 1–2 image ideas for the graphic designer
- Add graphic suggestions within the blog post
- Suggestions may include:
- Conceptual visuals (e.g., “person doing deep breathing by a window”)
- Infographics (e.g., “grounding technique steps”)
- Diverse wellness scenes (e.g., “community circle in a cozy setting”)
- Quotes
AI Use & Originality Policy
Permitted AI Use:
- Outlining and brainstorming
- Generating topic ideas, titles, and content structure drafts
Restrictions:
- Final content must be original and human-edited
- AI-generated drafts may not be submitted as-is
Required Checks:
- Plagiarism check: Must show <30% similarity
- AI detection check: Must show <30% AI-generated content
- Use tools like Grammarly, Copyscape, or Originality.ai before submission
- Disclosure: Add a brief note if AI was used for the outline or ideation
Submission Checklist
Before submitting, confirm:
- Outline submitted by Monday (EOD)
- Final draft submitted by Thursday (EOD)
- Word count: 800–1,200
- SEO keywords included (title, subheadings, body, meta description)
- Grammarly-checked and proofread
- Plagiarism <30%
- AI detection score <30%
- 1–2 image ideas included under “Graphic Suggestions”
- Properly formatted links (internal + external)
Review & Approval Process:
- Tuesday: Outline Review and approval
- Monday: Editorial review and minor edits
- Wednesday: Blog goes live
Other Notes:
- Blog topics may be assigned or chosen from our editorial calendar
- Writers can pitch their ideas to the Communications and Content Lead
- Writers will have direct access to write and edit blog posts within WordPress
Requirements
- An interest in mental wellness, service, and positive community building
- Consistency and reliability (5-10 hours weekly depending on role)
- Good communication skills
