As a Child Protection Caseworker with CATAI, you are the heartbeat of our field operations—the first point of contact for children in distress and their primary advocate for a safer future. In the complex environment of Madagali, your empathy, vigilance, and technical skill will transform lives, moving children from crisis to stability. Join a team where your daily actions directly build a more just and protective society for Nigeria’s next generation.
Job Summary
The Child Protection Caseworker (CP) is a frontline professional responsible for the direct identification, assessment, and management of cases involving children at risk. Reporting to the Child Protection Officer, you will manage a dedicated caseload, ensuring that survivors of trauma, neglect, or exploitation receive individualized care. You will navigate the “start-to-finish” case management cycle using the CPIMS+ (Primero) database, while mobilizing community leaders and caregivers to strengthen the local safety net for all children.
Key Responsibilities
Compassionate Case Management
- Active Identification: Conduct community outreach and field visits to identify and assess children facing protection risks, including unaccompanied minors and survivors of abuse.
- Personalized Care Planning: Develop and execute individualized case plans in partnership with children and their caregivers, ensuring a child-friendly and survivor-centered approach.
- Follow-up & Monitoring: Perform regular home visits to monitor progress, ensure the child’s safety, and facilitate appropriate case closure.
- High-Risk Advocacy: Flag urgent protection concerns to supervisors and participate in case conferences to resolve complex, high-risk situations.
Psychosocial Support & Referral Navigation
- Direct Support: Provide foundational psychosocial support to help children and families cope with trauma and crisis.
- Referral Excellence: Maintain an up-to-date service map and facilitate timely referrals to health, legal, education, and MHPSS providers.
- Outcome Tracking: Support families in accessing these services and document the outcomes to ensure the child’s holistic needs are met.
Community Engagement & Prevention
- Awareness Mobilization: Partner with local leaders and volunteers to promote positive parenting, child rights awareness, and risk reduction.
- Mechanism Strengthening: Contribute to the development of community-led protection groups that can identify and prevent abuse before it occurs.
Data Management & Reporting
- Digital Documentation: Maintain accurate, confidential records of all cases using CPIMS+ (Primero) and physical registers.
- Reporting: Submit weekly case updates and monitoring reports that highlight emerging trends and protection risks in operational areas.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Academic Foundation: Minimum of a Diploma in Social Work, Community Development, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Sectoral Experience: At least 1 year of direct experience in child protection case management, ideally in a humanitarian or post-crisis setting.
- Technical Mastery: Solid understanding of the case management cycle, including Family Tracing and Reunification (FTR) and the use of the CPIMS+/Primero platform.
- Interpersonal Strength: Exceptional ability to communicate with children and build trust with diverse community stakeholders.
- Resilience: Proven ability to work independently under tight deadlines and in extremely challenging field environments.
- Ethical Standards: A deep commitment to “Positive Discipline” and the “Do No Harm” principle—never using humiliation or force.
- Regional Insight (Desirable): Knowledge of the socio-cultural dynamics and local languages of Madagali/Adamawa is a significant advantage.
