The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), established in 1960 as an auxiliary to public authorities, relies on robust financial integrity and administrative excellence to deliver its life-saving mission. As the Branch Finance and Administrative Officer for the Sokoto State Branch, you will be the custodian of the branch’s resources. You will ensure that every donor Naira and every administrative process is optimized to support our volunteers and staff in alleviating human suffering across the state.
Job Summary
The Branch Finance and Administrative Officer is responsible for the comprehensive financial management and administrative oversight of the Sokoto State Branch. Reporting to the Branch Secretary, you will lead the preparation of budgets, maintain rigorous accounting standards, and manage the branch’s human and material resources. Your role is critical in ensuring that the NRCS operates with transparency, meets all audit requirements, and maintains the trust of our partners, donors, and the communities we serve.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Accounting
- Budgetary Oversight: Lead the development of the branch’s annual budget and provide financial advice to the Branch Executive Committee.
- Fiscal Accountability: Maintain accurate books of accounts, process payments, and ensure all financial transactions comply with NRCS and donor regulations.
- Audit Readiness: Prepare comprehensive financial statements and documentation for periodic internal and external audits.
- Grant Management: Monitor project spending against budgets, providing regular updates to project leads to prevent over-expenditure or fund mismanagement.
Administrative & Human Resources
- Office Operations: Oversee the daily administrative functions of the branch office, including procurement, logistics, and facility maintenance.
- Asset Management: Maintain a detailed inventory of all branch property, ensuring the safe storage and maintenance of equipment and vehicles.
- HR Support: Assist the Branch Secretary in personnel management, including payroll processing, maintaining staff records, and ensuring compliance with labor laws.
- Volunteer Coordination: Support the administrative aspects of volunteer recruitment, selecting, and deployment according to NRCS policy.
Compliance & Reporting
- Regulatory Adherence: Ensure the branch meets all legal and statutory obligations (tax, pensions, etc.) and inform the Secretary of any financial risks.
- Financial Reporting: Generate and submit timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to the National Headquarters (NHQ).
- Integrity Standards: Enforce zero-tolerance policies regarding corruption and mismanagement of organizational resources.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Professional Certification: Being a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (ICAN/ANAN) is highly preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in financial management, ideally within an emergency, relief, or community-based humanitarian context.
- Technical Mastery: High proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel) and familiarity with accounting software.
- Strategic Judgment: Ability to identify financial bottlenecks and develop strategic responses to optimize resource utilization.
- Communication: Fluency in English (written and spoken). Ability to communicate financial data clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
