We are currently seeking a highly committed and qualified individual to join our team in Sokoto as an Emergency Officer (Temporary Appointment, NO-1 Level).

The Role: Driving Emergency Preparedness and Response in Sokoto

Under the supervision of the Chief Field Office, the Emergency Officer will provide professional support and effective teamwork for the implementation of the Field Office’s emergency preparedness and response activities. This role is crucial for advancing the survival and well-being of children, mothers, and affected communities during crises.

Key Functions and Responsibilities Summary

The role centers around two major pillars:

1. Emergency Preparedness:

  • Conducting analysis to identify emergency-prone conditions, risks, and contributing to early warning systems.
  • Assisting in formulating and monitoring compliance with emergency plans of action.
  • Collecting, interpreting, and analyzing data on evolving emergency situations and identifying resource availability in vulnerable areas.
  • Assisting in organizing and conducting training for staff capacity building in preparedness and response.

2. Emergency Response & Project Implementation:

  • Promptly assisting in implementing initial operational tasks during an emergency.
  • Conducting rapid assessments of the crisis magnitude, coordinating with partners, and determining appropriate UNICEF interventions in line with the Core Commitments for Children in Emergencies.
  • Monitoring the timely delivery of assistance and effective use of UNICEF resources.
  • Undertaking field visits to project areas, carrying out project administration, and contributing to appeals and updates related to emergencies.
  • Supporting humanitarian access efforts in close coordination with relevant sections and field offices.

Minimum Requirements to Qualify

We are seeking dedicated professionals with a passion for humanitarian action.

Education:

  • University degree in one of the following fields: social sciences, public administration, law, public health, nutrition, international relations, business administration, or other related disciplines.

Work Experience:

  • One (1) year of relevant professional work experience at the national or international level in program/project development, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, or administration.
  • Field work experience is essential for this National Officer (NO) position.
  • Training or experience in emergency response management is highly desirable.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English and a local working language of the duty station (Sokoto/Nigeria).
  • A second UN language is an asset.
