Job Summary

The MEAL Officer will lead monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning activities for Save the Children’s project in Katsina State. The role focuses on data collection, analysis, reporting, and community feedback to support evidence-based programming. The successful candidate will ensure programmes meet quality standards, donor requirements, and accountability commitments.

Key Responsibilities

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Design and implement project MEAL frameworks, tools, and systems aligned with donor and organizational standards.
  • Lead data collection activities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and ethical practices.
  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data to generate insights and practical recommendations.
  • Conduct routine monitoring, data quality checks, and performance assessments.
  • Maintain regular updates to project information management systems, including logframes and indicators.
  • Support partners with technical guidance on MEAL processes and reporting requirements.

Accountability to Affected Populations

  • Strengthen community feedback and complaint mechanisms across project locations.
  • Promote information sharing, participation, and feedback as core accountability principles.
  • Facilitate community consultations and stakeholder meetings to inform programme adaptation.

Knowledge Management and Learning

  • Support learning sessions that encourage reflection and improvement within project teams.
  • Contribute to documentation, archiving, and organization of project records.
  • Assist in developing case studies, lessons learned, and success stories.

Safeguarding

  • Ensure child safeguarding risks are assessed and mitigated before any data collection involving children.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or HND in social sciences, statistics, development studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in MEAL roles within humanitarian or development organizations.
  • Experience supporting health or child protection programmes is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into clear findings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • Commitment to child rights, safeguarding, and participatory approaches.
