Global Peace Development (GPD) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in April 2002 and focuses on promoting peace for development in Nigeria. The organization envisions a country where peace and development is enjoyed by all. GPD seeks to build peace, gender equality, social justice, and foster democracy and governance at the community, local, state, and national levels.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Accountant
Location: Damaturu, Yobe
Employment Type: Full-time
Position Summary
- The Accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day financial management of Global Peace Development’s projects and operations in Yobe State.
- The role involves overseeing financial reporting, ensuring compliance with organizational and donor financial policies, processing payments, and maintaining accurate financial records.
- The Accountant will work closely with the State Coordinator and report directly to the Finance Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial reports, posting and reconciliations on quickbooks for all project activities in the State.
- Support budget preparation, monitoring, and forecasting processes for projects in the state.
- Maintain updated and well organized financial and accounting records for both internal and external audits.
- Support resource mobilization effort in the state
- Liaise with the State Coordinator and Program teams to ensure financial planning aligns with project deliverables.
- Monitor expenditures and provide timely alerts on potential budget overruns.
- Prepare standard monthly, quarterly, annual financial reports to the Head Office and donors.
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations such as tax remittance and audit standards.
- Uphold GPD’s core values of transparency, integrity, fairness, and accountability in all financial dealings.
Education and Professional Qualifications
- Minimum of BSc / HND in Accounting, or Banking and Finance.
- At least 2 – 3 years of practical accounting experience in the NGO sector.
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial reporting, donor compliance, and Nigerian tax regulations.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
- Experience working in Yobe State is an advantage.
