The Beneficiary Engagement Coordinator is a frontline role responsible for maintaining the relationship between United Way Greater Nigeria (UWGN) and the individuals or groups receiving support. This role ensures that the voices of the community are heard and that programs are meeting their intended needs.

1. Educational Requirements

  • Minimum Degree: Bachelor’s Degree (BSc/BA) or Higher National Diploma (HND).
  • Preferred Fields of Study: * Sociology or Social Work
    • Psychology
    • Public Health
    • Community Development
    • International Relations or Development Studies
  • Alternative Background: Candidates with degrees in Communications or Business but with a strong history of community service/volunteering will also be considered.

2. Core Responsibilities

  • Relationship Management: Act as the primary liaison between UWGN and program beneficiaries (students, health clinic users, or small business owners).
  • Feedback Loops: Design and implement mechanisms (surveys, focus groups, suggestion boxes) to collect honest feedback from the community.
  • On-boarding & Orientation: Assist in identifying and verifying new beneficiaries for programs like the Skills to Employment Program (STEP) and conducting orientation sessions.
  • Data Coordination: Maintain an accurate and updated database of beneficiary profiles, tracking their progress and attendance in various initiatives.
  • Complaint Resolution: Handle beneficiary grievances or challenges professionally, escalating them to the Program Manager when necessary.
  • Impact Reporting: Assist in gathering qualitative data (quotes, testimonials, and case studies) that prove the program’s effectiveness for donor reports.
  • Site Coordination: Visit community centers or schools to ensure that the environment remains conducive for program delivery and that beneficiaries feel safe and supported.

3. Key Skills & Requirements

  • Empathy & Emotional Intelligence: Ability to connect with people from underserved backgrounds with dignity and respect.
  • Bilingual Skills: Fluency in English is mandatory. High proficiency in Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, or Pidgin English is a significant advantage for effective community engagement.
  • Documentation Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets for maintaining beneficiary records.
  • Conflict Resolution: Ability to manage expectations and resolve misunderstandings within community settings.
  • Integrity: Strict adherence to UWGN’s Protection Policy (PSEA) regarding the ethical treatment of beneficiaries.
  • Local Knowledge: A strong understanding of the socio-economic landscape of the specific communities where UWGN operates (e.g., Lagos, Abuja, or other designated areas).
