Job Summary
The Social & Behaviour Change Communication Officer (SBCCO) will lead community mobilization, demand creation, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement activities in Zamfara State. The role focuses on increasing awareness, reducing stigma, and driving uptake of MSI Nigeria’s sexual and reproductive health services through strategic communication, community engagement, and partnerships.
This is a senior field-facing role requiring strong advocacy, leadership, and behaviour change communication experience, particularly within conservative or hard-to-reach communities.
Key Responsibilities
Community Mobilization
- Plan and execute community entry and mobilization activities, including mapping and engagement of key influencers.
- Conduct stakeholder mapping (supporters, partners, and antagonists) and implement engagement strategies.
- Develop and maintain a database of relevant stakeholders (government, religious, traditional, and community leaders).
- Build and sustain strong relationships with media, partners, and community structures.
Community-Based Organization (CBO) Management
- Identify and manage CBOs, youth champions, ward development committees, and other community actors.
- Design and implement capacity-building plans for community mobilizers and partners.
- Lead communication strategies aimed at sensitization, stigma reduction, and behaviour change.
- Ensure effective implementation of MSI Nigeria’s community engagement strategy.
Demand Creation and Marketing
- Develop and implement a context-specific demand generation strategy aligned with MSI Nigeria’s goals.
- Lead demand creation activities that increase client footfall and service uptake.
- Conduct market analysis by segment and location to inform outreach strategies.
- Ensure effective referral systems between communities, facilities, and the contact center.
- Achieve set service uptake and demand generation targets across assigned channels.
Advocacy and External Engagement
- Engage traditional, religious, and community leaders to foster an enabling environment.
- Conduct sensitization sessions with police and security agencies on sexual and reproductive health.
- Engage state and local government stakeholders, including Ministries of Health and technical working groups.
- Identify partnership opportunities to enhance MSI Nigeria’s visibility and impact.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
- Ensure data quality, validation, and timely reporting.
- Track referrals, in-reaches, and service uptake at facility and community levels.
- Submit monthly and quarterly reports, success stories, and “More Together” stories with high-quality photos.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
- First Degree (BA/BSc/HND) in any discipline.
Experience
- Minimum of 5–7 years post-NYSC experience in strategic communication, SBCC, or community engagement.
- Proven experience in CBO management, advocacy, and community mobilization.
- Strong understanding of donor-funded projects, including budgeting and reporting requirements.
- Experience engaging senior-level government officials and community leaders.
- Experience managing remote teams is an added advantage.
