Job Summary
The Driver will be responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and security of Malaria Consortium vehicles assigned to the Abuja office. The role involves transporting staff, visitors, and goods, supporting field activities, and ensuring vehicles are roadworthy and compliant with organizational and national regulations. The successful candidate will contribute to efficient project delivery by maintaining high standards of safety, professionalism, and vehicle care.
Key Responsibilities
Safe Transportation of Staff and Goods
- Safely transport Malaria Consortium staff, visitors, and project materials as assigned by the line manager.
- Ensure passengers use seat belts at all times and adhere to safety rules.
- Comply fully with Nigerian traffic laws, speed limits, and road safety practices.
- Follow Malaria Consortium vehicle usage policies and standard operating procedures.
- Immediately report accidents or incidents to the line manager and relevant authorities.
- Support loading and off-loading of items and assist with basic field-related tasks when required.
- Ensure vehicles are securely parked in approved locations at all times.
Vehicle Maintenance and Documentation
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and promptly report mechanical issues.
- Ensure vehicles are adequately fueled before trips and monitor fuel consumption.
- Accurately maintain vehicle movement and fuel logbooks and submit them as required.
- Confirm that vehicle insurance, licenses, and permits are valid before any trip.
- Keep vehicles clean and presentable, both internally and externally.
- Prepare vehicles in advance for planned field trips, including necessary tools, spare tyres, fuel, and safety kits.
Security, Communication, and Support Duties
- Maintain functional radio or communication equipment during all movements.
- Stay in regular contact with the base office while on assignment outside the office.
- Observe and comply with Malaria Consortium security guidelines and protocols.
- Support logistics and security teams by sharing route information and reporting security concerns.
- Carry out additional duties such as document delivery, bill payments, and staff pick-ups as assigned.
- Plan vehicle usage efficiently to reduce fuel costs and vehicle wear.
- Perform any other tasks assigned by the Logistics Officer or senior management.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of safe driving practices and road safety regulations.
- Ability to follow instructions, schedules, and security procedures.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of honesty, reliability, and professionalism.
- Ability to work calmly under pressure and in field environments.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Minimum of Secondary School Certificate (SSCE or equivalent).
- Valid Nigerian driver’s license.
- At least six (6) years of proven professional driving experience.
- Fluency in spoken English.
Desirable
- Basic mechanical knowledge or vehicle maintenance skills.
- Willingness to learn and apply organizational security protocols.
- Previous experience driving for an NGO or humanitarian organization.
