Job Summary
The Driver provides critical transportation support for the Nigeria INGO Forum’s staff and partners across Maiduguri and surrounding areas. Beyond operating the vehicle, you are responsible for the safety of personnel, the integrity of humanitarian cargo, and the meticulous maintenance of organization assets in a high-pressure setting.
Key Responsibilities
Personnel & Asset Transportation
- Provide reliable and safe transportation for staff and international partners for field assignments, airport transfers, and inter-office movements.
- Strategically plan and chart the most efficient and secure routes to optimize time and ensure passenger safety.
- Facilitate the secure delivery and collection of sensitive documents, ensuring all logs are signed by the correct recipients.
Vehicle Maintenance & Safety
- Take full ownership of vehicle readiness by performing daily preventive maintenance checks and routine cleaning.
- Monitor vehicle registration, insurance, and permit statuses, providing timely alerts to the logistics office for renewals.
- Ensure that all vehicle tools, first aid kits, and safety equipment are present and in perfect working condition at all times.
Security & Compliance
- Uphold strict safety and security protocols for all passengers and goods, adhering to NRC’s high standards for movement in volatile zones.
- Maintain accurate vehicle logs, including mileage, fuel consumption, and service history.
- Act as a professional representative of the INGO Forum, demonstrating courtesy and vigilance during all transits.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Minimum of a Secondary School Certificate (SSCE), WASSCE, or NECO.
- Licensing: Must possess a valid Nigerian Driver’s License and/or a recognized driving school certificate.
- Contextual Experience: Previous experience working as a driver within a humanitarian or recovery context is highly desirable.
- Environmental Awareness: Deep, localized knowledge of Maiduguri and its surrounding environments is essential for navigating safety checkpoints and changing road conditions.
- Language: Fluency in English (both verbal and written) is required to communicate effectively with diverse staff and partners.
- Resilience: Proven ability to remain calm and professional while working in complex, insecure, or volatile environments.
