Food Security and Livelihood (FSL) Assistant

True change happens at the community level when individuals gain the tools to provide for themselves. As the Food Security and Livelihood (FSL) Assistant with Chabash Development and Health Initiative (CDHI), you will be a frontline driver of economic empowerment in Borno State. This role is designed for a motivated, community-focused professional ready to facilitate life-changing vocational training and support local entrepreneurs in building resilient futures. Join us in transforming beneficiaries into self-sufficient community leaders.

Job Summary

The FSL Assistant supports the day-to-day implementation of community-based livelihood and Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) activities. Working under the guidance of the Livelihood Officer, you will mobilize community members, facilitate diverse skills training—ranging from agribusiness to ICT—and monitor the progress of trainees as they launch new income-generating ventures. Your goal is to ensure that our economic empowerment sessions are inclusive, data-driven, and results-oriented, providing a clear path to self-sufficiency for the most vulnerable.

Key Responsibilities

Training & Skill Facilitation

  • Technical Support: Assist in planning and executing diverse vocational training sessions, including tailoring, food processing, crafts, and modern agribusiness.
  • Mentorship: Facilitate small-group mentoring and peer-learning circles to help participants overcome obstacles in their entrepreneurial journeys.
  • Market Linkage: Help identify local market gaps and proactively link trainees with potential suppliers and buyers to ensure the viability of their new businesses.

Community Engagement & Mobilization

  • Inclusion Advocacy: Actively mobilize community members, ensuring the participation of women, youth, and other marginalized groups in all vocational programs.
  • Public Showcase: Assist in organizing community exhibitions and events to celebrate and showcase the products and achievements of our livelihood participants.
  • Relationship Management: Act as a positive ambassador for CDHI, fostering trust and collaboration within the community.

Data, Monitoring & Reporting

  • Performance Tracking: Maintain meticulous attendance records and collect performance data to monitor the progress of each trainee.
  • Impact Documentation: Capture the human side of our work by documenting success stories, beneficiary feedback, and lessons learned for program improvement.
  • Administrative Support: Assist with basic data entry and contribute to the development of accurate monthly activity reports.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or HND in Agriculture, Business Administration, Economics, Nutrition, or a related field.
  • Experience: 1–5 years of experience in community development, entrepreneurship, or livelihood-focused programs.
  • Technical Skills: Basic record-keeping and data entry skills, with proficiency in MS Office.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to work with diverse populations is essential.
  • Languages: Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in the local languages spoken in Borno (e.g., Hausa, Kanuri) is a significant advantage.
  • Attributes: High attention to detail, strong ethical standards, and a passion for community participation.

Why This Role is Important

In a region recovering from crisis, the FSL Assistant is the vital link between humanitarian strategy and community reality. This role ensures that our “Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance” leads to long-term stability rather than short-term relief. By facilitating skills that match local market needs, you are helping families break the cycle of dependency and rebuild the local economy from the ground up.

Areas of Accountability

  • Operational Excellence: Ensuring all FSL and MPCA activities meet strict donor and organizational requirements.
  • Data Integrity: Delivering accurate, timely data to supervisors for program evaluation.
  • Ethical Conduct: Upholding the “Do No Harm” principle and maintaining strict confidentiality and safeguarding standards.

Salary & Expectations

  • Type: Full-Time / Field-Based
  • Compensation: Competitive based on NGO standards in Borno State.
