The “REACH-OUT” Project is at the forefront of implementation research, dedicated to reaching “Zero-dose” children through innovative, cost-effective health strategies across four Nigerian states. To transform our extensive field data into actionable insights, we are seeking a highly skilled Qualitative Data Analyst. This short-term consultancy is a unique opportunity for an expert researcher to contribute to a high-impact project that directly influences health policy and saves lives by strengthening Nigeria’s immunization systems.
Job Summary
The Qualitative Data Analyst will lead the technical processing and thematic synthesis of qualitative data collected from community, facility, and system-level stakeholders. Over a 20-day engagement, the consultant will ensure the highest level of academic rigor in transcribing, coding, and analyzing in-depth interviews (IDIs) and focus group discussions (FGDs). Your work will be the foundation for project reports, policy briefs, and peer-reviewed manuscripts that define the future of healthcare delivery for the most vulnerable.
Key Responsibilities
Data Processing & Quality Control
- Verbatim Transcription: Deliver high-accuracy, word-for-word transcriptions of all approved audio recordings from KIIs, IDIs, and FGDs, maintaining strict data confidentiality.
- Integrity Review: Cross-reference all transcripts against original audio files to ensure consistency, completeness, and nuanced accuracy.
Thematic Analysis & Synthesis
- Framework Development: Build and refine a robust qualitative coding framework tailored to the REACH-OUT study’s specific objectives and implementation science models.
- Software-Driven Coding: Utilize industry-standard software (e.g., NVivo or ATLAS.ti) to systematically code the dataset.
- Advanced Synthesis: Identify cross-cutting themes, divergent perspectives, and emerging narratives across various respondent categories and geographic locations.
Reporting & Knowledge Management
- Analytic Memos: Draft insightful memos that capture “lessons learned” and key implementation science takeaways.
- Final Synthesis: Produce a comprehensive Qualitative Analysis Report that translates data into strategic implications for the project’s success.
- Archiving: Prepare cleaned transcripts and coded datasets for long-term project management and audit trails.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Academic Background: A Postgraduate Degree (Master’s or PhD) in Public Health, Anthropology, Sociology, Social Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Technical Expertise: Proven mastery of qualitative analysis software such as NVivo or ATLAS.ti is mandatory.
- Research Experience: Extensive background in qualitative methodologies, including experience with Implementation Research or Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) projects.
- Analytical Prowess: Superior skills in thematic synthesis and the ability to write high-quality, evidence-based reports and manuscripts.
- Ethical Standards: Unwavering commitment to research ethics and the handling of sensitive health data.
Why This Role is Important
Zero-dose children—those who have not received a single dose of basic vaccines—represent the most underserved populations in the country. This consultancy is critical because data without analysis is just noise. By synthesizing the “voices” of community members and health workers, you provide the evidence needed to fix broken health systems. Your analysis will dictate how resources are allocated to ensure every child in Nigeria is protected from preventable diseases.
Consultancy Benefits
- High-Level Impact: Influence the implementation of a major research project funded to improve national health outcomes.
- Remote Flexibility: This is a fully remote consultancy, allowing you to deliver high-quality outputs from your preferred location.
- Professional Portfolio: Your analysis will contribute to manuscripts and policy briefs with significant visibility in the public health sector.
Compensation & Duration
- Project Duration: 20 working days.
- Salary: Competitive consultancy rates commensurate with experience and academic qualifications.
