Medical Activity Manager (MAM)

In the world’s most challenging environments, medical leadership is the difference between life and death. As a Medical Activity Manager with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), you will take the helm of vital clinical programs, ensuring that populations affected by crisis receive care that is not only immediate but of the highest international standard. This role is a call to medical professionals who possess the technical expertise to treat complex conditions and the leadership vision to manage diverse teams under pressure.

Job Summary

The Medical Activity Manager is responsible for the strategic definition, coordination, and oversight of all medical activities within their assigned project. Based in Kebbi, you will ensure the seamless delivery of quality healthcare—ranging from malnutrition treatment to infectious disease management—while upholding MSF’s strict clinical protocols. Your goal is to improve the health outcomes of vulnerable populations through rigorous data analysis, staff mentorship, and resource optimization.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Oversight & Quality Assurance

  • Protocol Management: Supervise the implementation of medical activities (including HIV, TB, SGBV, and Malnutrition) ensuring absolute adherence to MSF and national clinical guidelines.
  • Malnutrition Focus (ITFC): Specifically oversee medical doctors in the Intensive Therapeutic Feeding Center (ITFC), managing severe acute malnutrition cases with complex complications.
  • Audit & Safety: Conduct systematic clinical and mortality audits to reinforce antimicrobial stewardship, patient safety, and rational drug prescription.
  • Infection Control: Monitor and implement rigorous Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) standards to mitigate risks within medical facilities.

Strategic Planning & Pharmacy Management

  • Project Evolution: Contribute to annual project planning and budgeting, identifying emerging health trends and adapting programs accordingly.
  • Supply Chain Integrity: Ensure efficient pharmacy management, monitoring consumption patterns and collaborating with biomedical teams to anticipate equipment and drug needs.
  • Diagnostics: Oversee the accuracy of laboratory results for malaria, anemia, and other co-morbidities to ensure timely patient intervention.

Team Leadership & Human Resources

  • Capacity Building: Identify training needs and design development plans for medical and Health Promotion (HP) teams.
  • Personnel Management: Coordinate daily work schedules, manage leave rotations, and conduct performance evaluations to maintain a high-functioning medical unit.
  • Holistic Integration: Collaborate with Mental Health and Health Promotion teams to ensure a comprehensive, patient-centered approach to care.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Academic Credentials: A Bachelor’s degree in Medicine (MBBS) is required. A Master’s degree in Public Health or a related medical specialty is highly advantageous.
  • Professional Experience: 1 to 10 years of clinical and management experience, particularly in humanitarian or public health settings.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proven ability to analyze medical statistics and translate data into actionable health strategies.
  • Leadership Traits: Exceptional team management skills, adaptability to high-stress environments, and a commitment to MSF’s humanitarian principles.
  • Legal Requirements: Must possess a valid practicing license and have completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) or hold a valid exemption letter.

Why This Role is Important

The Kebbi mission focuses on some of the most critical health indicators in the region, particularly regarding pediatric malnutrition and infectious disease outbreaks. As MAM, your leadership ensures that the ITFC operates as a center of excellence. By validating treatment plans and mentoring local doctors, you are not just treating individual patients—you are strengthening the entire healthcare framework for a community in distress.

Benefits of Working with MSF

  • Professional Prestige: Join a world-renowned, Nobel Peace Prize-winning organization.
  • High-Level Impact: Influence medical policy and practice at the project level.
  • Global Network: Work alongside an international team of experts and gain exposure to diverse medical humanitarian methodologies.
  • Career Development: Access to specialized internal training and potential for international mobility within the MSF movement.

Salary & Compensation

  • Expectation: Competitive / NGO Scale (MSF provides a robust compensation package tailored to the level of responsibility and the local context).
