In the world of humanitarian medicine, data is as essential as medicine itself. Precise information allows our teams to track outbreaks, measure treatment success, and advocate for the vulnerable populations we serve. By leading our medical data team in Sokoto, you ensure that every patient’s journey is accurately recorded, providing the evidence-based insights needed to refine our lifesaving operations in the Noma project.
Job Summary
The Supervisor Medical Data Entry is responsible for the integrity, security, and management of the mission’s medical databases. You will lead a team of data entry officers, ensuring that all clinical information—from nutritional recovery to surgical outcomes—is recorded with absolute precision. Your role is to transform raw data into high-quality statistical reports that empower our medical managers to make informed, life-saving decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Planning: Organize, schedule, and supervise the daily activities of the Data Entry team to ensure consistent and reliable records of all medical interventions.
- Database Management & Quality Control: Oversee the entry of complex medical data (morbidity, mortality, epidemic surveillance, and mental health) into systems like DHIS2, Epi Info, and Fuchia, performing regular quality audits to eliminate errors.
- Technical Mentorship: Identify training gaps within your team and provide hands-on technical support to ensure all operators are proficient in MSF data protocols and software.
- Statistical Reporting: Generate and present weekly, monthly, and annual medical reports for the Medical Team Leader (MTL), highlighting significant trends, data discrepancies, or missing information.
- Records Oversight & Confidentiality: Collaborate with Ministry of Health (MoH) staff to ensure the secure storage of patient files and maintain the highest standards of data confidentiality and security.
- Administrative Support: Ensure all project sites (ITFC, ATFC, and Noma Children Hospital) have sufficient data collection tools and registers, while maintaining a clean and organized data recording environment.
- Research Support: Participate in specialized data collection and analysis for project-based research initiatives as required.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Essential: Proven computer literacy and secondary education, with specific qualifications in Statistics, Data Entry, or Administration.
- Desirable: A University Degree in Information Technology (IT) or a related field.
Professional Experience
- Essential: A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience working specifically with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).
Knowledge & Competencies
- Technical Mastery: Advanced proficiency in MS Excel is mandatory. Must be able to quickly learn and utilize specialized software such as DHIS2 and Kobo Collect.
- Language Skills: Fluency in the local language (Hausa) is essential; proficiency in the mission language (English) is highly desirable.
- Core Competencies: Results-driven mindset, ability to work under stress, behavioral flexibility, and a deep commitment to MSF’s humanitarian principles.
Why This Role is Important
The Noma project deals with a highly time-sensitive and neglected disease. Accurate data entry allows us to track the prevalence of the condition and the effectiveness of our surgical and nutritional interventions. As a supervisor, you are the filter that ensures the “voice” of our data is clear, helping us prove the impact of our work to the global health community and secure the future of the project.
Benefits of Applying
- Professional Leadership: Take on a supervisory role within a globally recognized medical NGO.
- Meaningful Impact: Directly contribute to the eradication and treatment of Noma in Nigeria.
- Stability: 1-year definite contract with the potential for extension.
- Salary: Competitive (Based on the MSF-OCA salary grid for national staff in Nigeria).
Tips for Applicants
- Emphasize Your MSF Experience: Since two years of MSF experience is essential, clearly detail your previous roles and the specific data tools you used within the organization.
- Showcase Your Excel Skills: Don’t just list it as a skill; mention your experience with data cleaning, pivot tables, or complex formulas.
- The “Single Document” Rule: Ensure your CV, Cover Letter, and credentials are sent as one single attachment. Multiple separate files may lead to your application being overlooked.
