Job Summary

The Programme Manager for Internal Audit is a high-level oversight role designed to bolster the organization’s risk management and governance frameworks. The successful candidate will lead complex audit cycles across diverse project portfolios, providing senior management with the objective insights and corrective roadmaps necessary to mitigate risk and optimize internal controls.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Audit Operations

  • Cycle Management: Lead the comprehensive planning and execution of financial, operational, and IT-based audits across all SFH departments and regional project sites.
  • Risk Prioritization: Develop risk-based audit schedules by identifying emerging vulnerabilities within the SFH ecosystem and prioritizing resources accordingly.
  • Specialized Inquiries: Oversee compliance reviews and forensic investigations when required, providing independent consulting on risk-related matters to executive leadership.

Compliance & Risk Governance

  • Regulatory Alignment: Ensure all organizational activities strictly adhere to Nigerian statutory laws, international auditing standards, and specific donor-mandated regulations.
  • Control Optimization: Critically evaluate the strength of existing internal controls and design innovative improvements to neutralize potential operational or financial threats.
  • Risk Framework Development: Collaborate with the Director of Internal Audit to refine risk assessment methodologies and monitor the real-world success of mitigation strategies.

Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Team Mentorship: Supervise and train the internal audit staff, fostering a culture of professional development, technical accuracy, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Reporting & Influence: Author high-quality audit reports for the executive board, translating technical findings into clear, actionable business insights.
  • External Liaison: Serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors and partners, ensuring a seamless and transparent flow of information during annual reviews.

Candidate Profile: Qualifications & Experience

  • Academic Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is required; an MBA or relevant Master’s degree is highly preferred.
  • Mandatory Certification: CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor) is a prerequisite for this role.
  • Professional Credentials: Holding ACA, ACCA, or CFE certifications will provide a significant competitive advantage.
  • Sector Expertise: At least 7 years of high-level experience in internal auditing or risk management, ideally with a deep understanding of donor-funded (NGO) or HMO regulatory environments.
  • Mobility: Must be willing and able to travel frequently to various field offices and project locations throughout Nigeria.
