Location: Maiduguri, Borno State
Organization: Action Against Hunger (ACF)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Application Deadline: January 5, 2026
The Heart of Our Humanitarian Mission
In regions where access to healthcare is often hindered by conflict and misinformation, the Health Promoter serves as the essential bridge between life-saving medical services and the families who need them most. By fostering trust and providing clear, actionable health education, you empower communities to take charge of their own wellbeing and break the cycle of malnutrition and disease. Your work on the ground ensures that no child or mother is left behind due to a lack of information or a broken referral pathway.
Job Summary
The Health Promoter is responsible for leading community-level sensitization and mobilization efforts to increase the uptake of essential health, nutrition, and WASH services. You will act as a frontline educator and advocate, ensuring that vulnerable individuals are identified, educated, and successfully linked to health facilities and outreach programs.
Key Responsibilities
Community Education & Mobilization
- Health Sensitization: Organize and lead regular awareness sessions on critical topics, including Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH), maternal nutrition, hygiene (WASH), and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS).
- Direct Outreach: Conduct household visits and facilitate focus group discussions to address community misconceptions and encourage the use of facility-based services.
- Service Advocacy: Mobilize community members for immunization campaigns, screening activities, and maternal health check-ups (ANC/PNC).
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong, respectful partnerships with local leaders, youth groups, and women’s organizations to ensure health programs are culturally accepted.
Referral & Clinical Support
- Case Identification: Actively screen and identify vulnerable individuals in the community who require specialized medical or nutritional support.
- Referral Management: Facilitate the transition of clients from the community to health facilities, ensuring a closed-loop follow-up on every referred case.
- Supervisory Support: Assist in monitoring health facility performance to ensure that service delivery remains consistent with high-quality humanitarian standards.
Data Management & Reporting
- Field Reporting: Document all daily mobilization activities, community feedback, and emerging health trends to inform program strategy.
- Data Integrity: Accurately collect and manage field data, including attendance logs, referral forms, and success stories.
- Feedback Loops: Educate beneficiaries on Complaint and Feedback Mechanisms (CFM) to ensure their voices are heard and their rights are protected.
Protection & Ethics
- Safeguarding Advocacy: Promote messages regarding the Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) and ensure communities understand safe, confidential reporting channels.
- Dignity & Respect: Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality and professional ethics in all interactions with beneficiaries and partners.
Candidate Requirements
- Educational Background: A National Diploma (OND) in Community Health, Public Health, Nursing, Nutrition, or a related medical field.
- Professional Experience: At least one year of hands-on experience in community-level health promotion, hygiene advocacy, or humanitarian field work.
- Technical Knowledge: Basic understanding of Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN), family planning, and immunization protocols.
- Field Resilience: Proven ability to work effectively in insecure and dynamic environments, particularly within the Northeast Nigerian context.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional oral communication skills with the ability to speak local languages fluently and present information persuasively to diverse groups.
