Job Summary
The Economic Recovery (EcRec) Coordinator provides expert strategic and technical oversight across the entire spectrum of DRC’s economic programming, encompassing food security, livelihoods, and financial inclusion across Nigeria’s operational areas. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing high-quality program strategies, developing implementation tools, building team capacity, and ensuring the portfolio delivers impactful, sustainable, and market-aligned interventions.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Direction & Technical Authority
- Strategy Formulation: Lead the ongoing development, update, and national rollout of DRC’s EcRec technical strategy, prioritizing innovation, environmental sustainability, and pathways toward durable solutions.
- Proposal Design: Serve as the technical lead for program development, providing expert inputs on proposals, concept notes, and evaluations to ensure alignment with sector best practices and donor requirements.
- Trend Analysis: Conduct in-depth analysis of economic and market trends, challenges, and opportunities to inform strategic shifts and adaptive management within the program.
Program Quality Assurance & Capacity Building
- Graduation Model Leadership: Provide specialized technical support for the implementation of the graduation approach, including the creation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), detailed implementation guidance, and robust training curricula for field teams and beneficiaries.
- Quality Monitoring: Ensure technical quality assurance across all EcRec modalities, including Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA), agriculture, and market systems, throughout the entire project cycle.
- Team Development: Lead capacity building, mentoring, and continuous coaching for field-based teams and implementing partners to enhance technical proficiency in all economic recovery areas.
External Representation & Fundraising
- Coordination: Represent DRC’s EcRec portfolio at national and area-level coordination platforms, actively engaging with technical working groups and relevant forums.
- Partnership & Advocacy: Cultivate strong relationships with national government authorities, donors, UN agencies, private sector actors, and technical partners to identify collaboration and new funding avenues.
- Resource Mobilization: Contribute actively to fundraising efforts by identifying opportunities, drafting technical sections of proposals, and developing advocacy materials to showcase program results and needs.
- Global Alignment: Liaise closely with DRC Headquarters and regional counterparts to ensure technical consistency and integrate global organizational learning into the Nigeria program.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education & Experience
- Education: Master’s degree in International Development, Economic Studies, Political Science, or another relevant, related field is essential.
- Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of substantial professional experience in humanitarian or development programming.
- Sectoral Expertise: Demonstrated experience covering at least four of the following technical areas: food security, livelihoods, agriculture, financial inclusion, Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA), or market systems development.
- Specialized Knowledge: Proven technical experience in resilience-building, social protection mechanisms, or integrated economic recovery models, particularly the Graduation Approach.
- Documentation Skills: Established ability to create complex technical products, including SOPs, implementation guidance, and specialized training curricula.
Competencies & Attributes
- Communication: Exceptional communication, facilitation, and technical writing skills, necessary for high-level representation and report drafting.
- Language: Full professional proficiency (both written and spoken) in English is mandatory.
- Proposal Success: Proven track record of contributing effectively to proposal development and securing major donor funding.
- Contextual Advantage (Desirable): Prior experience managing programs in Northeast and Northwest Nigeria, experience with green/climate-adapted livelihood models, and familiarity with partners like JIPS.
