Job Summary
The Field Operations Driver is a key member of the project team, tasked with providing secure, efficient, and professional transportation services for the CARMNIS project in Kano. This position is responsible for maintaining the assigned project vehicle in peak operational condition and ensuring strict compliance with all national traffic laws and Pathfinder International’s safety and asset management policies.
Core Responsibilities
Safe Vehicle Management & Security
- Execute all official driving duties for staff, partners, and stakeholders with the highest regard for safety and compliance with all Nigerian traffic regulations.
- Rigorously implement vehicle safety protocols, including ensuring all passengers are correctly restrained.
- Serve as the first line of defense in the field by promptly identifying and escalating any security risks, unusual incidents, or accidents to management.
Vehicle Maintenance and Asset Integrity
- Perform mandatory daily pre-trip inspections (checking tires, fluids, lights, and brakes) to guarantee the vehicle’s roadworthiness before every departure.
- Coordinate with the Administrative team to ensure timely servicing, required licensing renewals, and necessary insurance updates are executed without lapse.
- Maintain exceptional cleanliness and mechanical readiness of the assigned vehicle at all times.
Administrative Documentation & Record Keeping
- Accurately document every official journey in the vehicle logbook, detailing mileage, route taken, passenger names, and purpose of travel.
- Compile and submit detailed monthly reports on fuel consumption and mileage to support accurate financial reconciliation and reporting.
- Manage vehicle-related documentation (e.g., service history, insurance cards) in an organized and accessible manner.
Field Logistics and Operational Support
- Provide essential logistical support, including acting as a courier for vital official correspondence and documents between partner offices.
- Support program staff by assisting with the careful loading, unloading, and secure transport of training materials, medical equipment, and supplies destined for LGAs.
- Coordinate vehicle movements with the program schedule, ensuring staff arrive punctually for trainings, supervisory missions, and community engagement sessions.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education & Experience
- Education: Minimum academic qualification of a Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
- Licensing: Must hold a valid Nigerian national driver’s license with a verifiable clean driving history (accident-free record).
- Professional Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of continuous, professional driving experience, preferably acquired within the international development or public health NGO sector.
- Contextual Knowledge: Demonstrated experience driving in complex rural and dense urban settings, with excellent familiarity with routes and road conditions in Kano State.
Skills & Attributes
- Technical Driving Skills: Expert knowledge of defensive driving techniques and comprehensive understanding of Nigerian road safety regulations.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance, troubleshooting, and the ability to perform minor mechanical checks.
- Communication: Foundational proficiency in written and spoken English, along with strong verbal communication skills in the relevant local language.
- Professional Conduct: High level of integrity, a strong sense of responsibility, and advanced customer service skills when interacting with staff and partners.
- Commitment: Willingness and capacity to travel extensively (at least 50% of the time) to support field operations.
