Job Summary

Malaria Consortium is seeking a dynamic and highly organized LGA Field Assistant to support the end-to-end implementation and quality control of SMC activities across various deployment locations in Nigeria. The successful candidate will be responsible for local planning, liaising with government and community stakeholders, and providing crucial administrative and logistical support to front-line health workers to ensure high-fidelity SMC service delivery and accurate documentation.

What Skills Are Needed: Core Operational and Field Competencies

Competency Description
Field Logistics Proven experience in the management of drug/commodity supply chains, including tracking consumption, inventory reconciliation, and planning for stock needs.
Operational Supervision Experience conducting quality supportive supervision for health facility workers (HFWs) and community health workers (CHWs) to ensure protocol adherence.
Local Coordination Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and build collaborative relationships with LGA officials, health partners, and community leaders.
Data Quality Assurance Skill in reviewing field data collection sheets (tally sheets), identifying errors, and assisting M&E teams with data entry and query resolution.
Language Fluency Essential fluency in English and mandatory fluency in Hausa or other local languages relevant to the deployment area (Sokoto, Bauchi, Borno, Oyo, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Kogi).

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

The LGA Field Assistant will be responsible for the seamless execution and monitoring of SMC services at the community level.

1. Program Execution and Quality Control (70%)

  • Implementation Support: Provide hands-on assistance for the daily SMC activities, including the timely execution of planned route maps, coordination of community mobilization efforts, and logistical support for distribution teams.
  • Commodity Management: Monitor the distribution and consumption of commodities and supplies, tracking accountability reports from health facilities to prevent stock-outs and ensure appropriate use of resources.
  • Training Support: Deliver essential administrative support during training events for field staff, including supervisors, HFWs, CHWs, and community mobilizers.
  • Protocol Adherence: Continuously monitor activity implementation against laid-down program protocols, promptly escalating any identified risks or implementation challenges to the Program Officer for mitigation.

2. Data Reporting and M&E Linkage (10%)

  • Data Review: Meticulously review distributors’ tally sheets, making necessary corrections and supporting the M&E Officer by entering key administrative coverage and supply chain data onto the relevant platform.
  • Query Resolution: Collaborate with the M&E Officer to address data quality queries and ensure that all identified issues are rectified promptly in the field.
  • Information Flow: Ensure timely submission of essential progress reports to the Program Officer and State Project Manager to maintain organizational awareness of project status at the LGA level.

3. Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement (10%)

  • Local Governance: Maintain collaborative relationships and conduct joint activities with Public Health Officers and other partners, promoting LGA ownership of the SMC program through home visits and regular meetings.
  • Meeting Facilitation: Organize and ensure effective planning and coordination meetings are held as scheduled at both the LGA and community levels, and participate in data validation meetings as directed.

4. Administrative Support (10%)

  • Planning: Assist in the development of both individual and team action plans, promoting complementary roles to efficiently achieve treatment targets.
  • Inventory Control: Monitor the consumption of supplies and ensure health facilities complete and release accurate physical inventory reports of all SMC commodities at the end of each cycle for final reconciliation.

Professional Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • A minimum of a Diploma level qualification in Clinical Science, Nursing, Public Health, Social Sciences, or a related field.

Experience

  • At least two (2) years of dedicated field experience in a health, logistics, or development-related role.
  • Proven experience working in commodity supply management (drugs/supplies) and providing M&E or logistical support.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting quality supportive supervision and facilitating data use at the local level.

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong planning, organizational, and basic computer skills (particularly Microsoft Office).
  • Flexible, adaptable, and capable of working effectively both independently and as a team member in demanding environments.
  • Legal Requirement: Must be a Nigerian citizen.
