Success Blueprint: GBV Case Worker (PUI Monguno)

The GBV Case Worker position in Monguno is a high-responsibility role in a sensitive conflict-affected area. PUI is looking for a professional who can manage complex trauma with technical precision.

1. Master the “Survivor-Centered” Vocabulary

PUI emphasizes a “survivor-centered approach.”

  • The Strategy: Your application must demonstrate that you prioritize the survivor’s safety, confidentiality, dignity, and self-determination.
  • Action: Use keywords like “Psychological First Aid (PFA),” “Do No Harm,” “Informed Consent,” and “Non-discriminatory care.”

2. Highlight GBVIMS Proficiency

The job description explicitly mentions the Gender-Based Violence Information Management System (GBVIMS).

  • Success Factor: Proficiency in the GBVIMS Incident Recorder is a major technical differentiator.
  • Pro-Tip: If you have experience using this tool to analyze trends or generate donor reports, highlight this. It proves you can handle sensitive data according to global standards.

3. Emphasize “Safe Space” Management

This role involves managing a Women and Girls’ Safe Space (WGSS).

  • The Context: A safe space is more than a building; it is a service delivery point.
  • Action: Mention your experience in organizing “Dignity Kit” distributions, psychosocial group activities, or life-skills training within a WGSS environment.

4. Cultural & Linguistic Fluency (Monguno Context)

Monguno has a diverse population of IDPs and host communities.

  • Language: Fluency in Kanuri is often as important as Hausa in Monguno. If you speak both, highlight this prominently to show you can provide direct counseling without an interpreter.
  • Diplomacy: Working with community leaders to change perceptions of GBV requires high-level diplomacy. Mention any experience in “Community Mobilization” or “Sensitization.”

5. Stress Management & Self-Care

PUI specifically lists “Practice self-care” as a responsibility.

  • Why? Secondary trauma is real in GBV work.
  • Strategy: Show that you are a resilient professional. Mention how you manage stress and maintain boundaries to ensure long-term effectiveness in the field.

6. Final Application Checklist

  • [ ] Degree: Is your degree in Psychology or Social Science clearly listed?
  • [ ] NGO Experience: Does your CV show 2+ years of humanitarian experience?
  • [ ] Languages: Have you confirmed your fluency in Hausa and Kanuri?
  • [ ] PSEA: Are you prepared to discuss your commitment to the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse?
