Organization: Malaria Consortium
Location: Kaduna State, Nigeria
Assignment Type: Field Implementation (LGA Level)
Reporting to: Programme Officer (PO)
Application Closing Date: 27th April, 2026 (Before 5:00 PM)
PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
Malaria Consortium is seeking dedicated LGA Field Assistants (FA) to support the high-quality implementation of the Mass Drug Administration (MDA) of Azithromycin (AZM) across Kaduna State. This role is essential for ensuring that life-saving commodities reach the “last mile”—from state medical stores to the households of the most vulnerable children. You will be the primary link between the program, health facility workers, and community leaders.
SCOPE OF WORK
The LGA Field Assistant is responsible for the planning, execution, and monitoring of AZM distribution and reverse logistics. You will work directly with Health Facility Workers (HFWs), Community Drug Distributors (CDDs), and traditional leaders to ensure that drug administration protocols are followed strictly and data is captured accurately.
SPECIFIC DELIVERABLES
1. Implementation & Monitoring
- Mass Drug Administration: Ensure the successful conduct of AZM MDA across all implementing health facilities in your assigned LGA.
- Training: Support and facilitate refresher training for HFWs and CDDs to maintain service quality.
- SBC Interventions: Support the rollout of Social and Behavioural Change (SBC) strategies to increase community acceptance.
2. Logistics & Supply Chain
- Last-Mile Distribution: Oversee the movement of commodities from the State Central Medical Store to local health facilities.
- Reverse Logistics: Manage the retrieval of unused commodities and supplies post-campaign.
- HCM Compliance: Monitor digital Health Commodity Management (HCM) and report any non-compliance or bottlenecks to the Command-and-Control Center.
3. Coordination & Reporting
- Stakeholder Engagement: Keep LGA management teams and traditional leaders updated on program progress.
- Data Management: Provide timely feedback and data entry to the M&E Officer to track administrative coverage.
- Finance Support: Assist the Finance Officer in verifying account details for the payment of distribution personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Education: Science, Social Science, or Public Health-related qualification.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of field experience in public health, logistics, or M&E.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in digital tools is mandatory (Kobo Collect, SurveyCTO, and Microsoft Office Suite).
- Supply Chain: Experience in drug/commodity supply management and supportive supervision.
- Languages: Fluency in English and Hausa/Fulani is required.
- Local Knowledge: Deep familiarity with the Kaduna state terrain and local government structures.
Field Success Blueprint: LGA Field Assistant (Kaduna)
Success as an LGA Field Assistant with Malaria Consortium depends on your ability to manage people, pills, and paper (data) simultaneously.
1. The “Last Mile” Specialist
In the MDA context, “Last Mile” is the most difficult part of the supply chain.
- The Challenge: Ensuring that Azithromycin reaches remote settlements in Kaduna without being damaged or lost.
- Success Factor: You must be proactive. Don’t wait for a facility to run out of drugs; monitor their consumption daily and coordinate with the State Central Medical Store before a stock-out occurs.
2. Digital Data Integrity
Malaria Consortium relies heavily on Kobo Collect and SurveyCTO.
- Pro-Tip: Your reports are the only way the “Command-and-Control Center” knows what is happening in the field. Ensure your phone is always charged, and sync your data daily. Accuracy is more important than speed.
3. Mastering Community Diplomacy
You are the face of the program to the District Heads (Hakimi) and Ward Heads (Mai Unguwa).
- Cultural Competence: In Kaduna, community buy-in is the key to drug acceptance. If a household refuses AZM, you must work with traditional leaders to explain the health benefits rather than forcing compliance.
4. Financial Accountability
You are responsible for gathering the account details of CDDs and HFWs.
- Avoid Delays: Incorrect bank details lead to delayed payments, which causes low morale among volunteers. Be meticulous in collecting and verifying this information to ensure your team stays motivated.
5. Essential Interview Prep
- Scenario: “A Community Drug Distributor is found giving AZM to children who don’t meet the age criteria. What do you do?” (Focus your answer on Protocol Adherence and Supportive Supervision).
- Technical: Be ready to demonstrate your familiarity with the Azithromycin administration protocol—know the target age groups and exclusion criteria.
- Safeguarding: Understand that as an FA, you are responsible for the safety of the children receiving drugs. Any form of harassment or exploitation must be reported immediately.
Your work in the field is the difference between a child receiving life-saving medicine or being left behind. Work with passion.
